M. Scholl Lecturer payable by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, <strong>the</strong> excess <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income over that amount may be<br />
applied in support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer in such manner as may be approved by <strong>the</strong> General<br />
Board on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine.<br />
4. Any unexpended income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund in a financial year may in any subsequent year be expended<br />
in accordance with Regulation 3.<br />
SCHRODERS BOOK FUND FOR JAPANESE STUDIES<br />
The sums given to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Schroder Investment Management Limited shall form a fund<br />
called <strong>the</strong> Schroders Book Fund for Japanese Studies. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used at <strong>the</strong><br />
discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> East Asian Studies in consultation with and with <strong>the</strong><br />
agreement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong>ficers in Japanese in <strong>the</strong> Department to purchase books and o<strong>the</strong>r materials<br />
on Japanese subjects for <strong>the</strong> library <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Asian and Middle Eastern Studies.<br />

A.W. SCOTT FUND<br />
1. The money received from <strong>the</strong> bequest <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor A. W. Scott for <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> Physical<br />
Science shall constitute a fund called <strong>the</strong> A. W. Scott Fund.<br />
2. A short course <strong>of</strong> lectures, to be called <strong>the</strong> Scott Lectures, shall be delivered each year in <strong>the</strong><br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Physics. The Lecturer, who shall be called <strong>the</strong> Scott Lecturer, shall be appointed by <strong>the</strong><br />
Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Physics and Chemistry, and shall be paid from <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> A. W. Scott Fund<br />
such sum as <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board shall from time to time determine.<br />
3. The Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Physics may, from that part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fund which<br />
remains each year after <strong>the</strong> payment to <strong>the</strong> Lecturer has been made,<br />
(a) make grants to registered Graduate Students working in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Physics, and<br />
(b) defray <strong>the</strong> expenses <strong>of</strong> scientific conferences to be held in <strong>the</strong> Department.<br />
4. The remaining income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be paid into <strong>the</strong> funds available to <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />
Physics for general purposes.<br />
SCOTT POLAR SCHOLARSHIP FUND<br />

1. The Scott Polar Scholarship Fund was established at <strong>the</strong> centenary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year in which Captain<br />
R. F. Scott and his four companions reached <strong>the</strong> South Pole and perished on <strong>the</strong>ir return journey, to<br />
mark <strong>the</strong>ir achievements and <strong>the</strong> scientific legacy <strong>of</strong> Scott’s Discovery and Terra Nova expeditions to<br />
Antarctica.<br />
2. The income from <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to contribute to <strong>the</strong> fees, maintenance, and field research<br />
<strong>of</strong> postgraduate students at <strong>the</strong> Scott Polar Research Institute, to enable <strong>the</strong>m to undertake scientific<br />
and o<strong>the</strong>r related research on polar topics. Scholarships supporting such research, in whole or in part,<br />
shall be advertised from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
3. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scott Polar Research Institute and two<br />
persons, who would normally be based in <strong>the</strong> Scott Polar Research Institute, appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty<br />
Board <strong>of</strong> Earth Sciences and Geography to serve for periods <strong>of</strong> four years at a time.<br />

SEATONIAN PRIZE<br />

1. There shall be <strong>of</strong>fered in each year a Seatonian Prize for a poem on a subject conducive to <strong>the</strong><br />
honour <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Supreme Being and <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> virtue.<br />
2. The Prize shall be awarded by three Examiners who shall be appointed in <strong>the</strong> Lent Term <strong>of</strong> each<br />
year, two on <strong>the</strong> nomination <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity and one on <strong>the</strong> nomination <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty<br />
Board <strong>of</strong> English. Each Examiner shall receive from <strong>the</strong> Seatonian Fund, unless no exercise is sent in,<br />
such amount as may be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Boards within a range approved from time to time<br />
by <strong>the</strong> Council.
