1. The moneys subscribed by friends and former students <strong>of</strong> Michael Loewe, formerly <strong>University</strong><br />
Lecturer in Chinese Studies and Fellow <strong>of</strong> Clare Hall, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Michael Loewe<br />
Fund for Classical and Literary Chinese Studies, which shall be used for <strong>the</strong> encouragement <strong>of</strong> classical<br />
Chinese studies in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> East Asian Studies and <strong>the</strong><br />
teaching <strong>of</strong>ficers in Chinese in <strong>the</strong> Department.<br />
3. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Michael Loewe Prize, which shall be<br />
awarded annually for distinction in classical and literary Chinese shown by performance in those<br />
subjects in any Part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Tripos.<br />
4. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers within a range<br />
approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />
5. Any fur<strong>the</strong>r donations to <strong>the</strong> Fund shall ei<strong>the</strong>r be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund or be made<br />
available as income as <strong>the</strong> Managers shall determine, taking into account <strong>the</strong> wishes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> donors.<br />
6. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be used at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers<br />
for <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> classical Chinese and Chinese dynastic history, literature, religion,<br />
and thought.<br />

LONDON STUDENTS HARDSHIP FUND<br />
1. The money received from <strong>the</strong> Trustees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> London Parochial Charities shall form a fund to be<br />
called <strong>the</strong> London Students Hardship Fund, <strong>the</strong> capital and income <strong>of</strong> which shall be applied to meet<br />
<strong>the</strong> needs <strong>of</strong> London undergraduates who encounter genuine hardship which is in no way due to<br />
improvidence on <strong>the</strong>ir part.<br />
2. The Fund shall be managed by <strong>the</strong> Loan Fund I Committee.<br />
3. Undergraduate students, who at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir application are domiciled in <strong>the</strong> Metropolitan<br />
Police District <strong>of</strong> London, shall be eligible to receive assistance from <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
4. Applications for assistance from <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be sent by <strong>the</strong> students’ Tutors to <strong>the</strong> Registrary.<br />
5. The Managers may from time to time at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion make grants in fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> object<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund as specified in Regulation 1; provided that no grant shall be made to assist a student<br />
during any period after he or she has ceased to be an undergraduate.<br />
6. At <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> each academical year a report shall be submitted by <strong>the</strong> Managers to <strong>the</strong> Trustees<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> London Parochial Charities giving details <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> grants made during <strong>the</strong> year and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
circumstances <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> recipients.<br />

GEORGE LONG PRIZES<br />

1. Six George Long Prizes shall be <strong>of</strong>fered annually.<br />
2. Two Prizes shall be <strong>of</strong>fered for distinguished pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in Roman Law shown by candidates<br />
<strong>of</strong>fering <strong>the</strong> paper Civil law I in <strong>the</strong> Law Tripos, one for distinguished pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in Roman Law<br />
shown by a candidate <strong>of</strong>fering <strong>the</strong> paper Civil law II in <strong>the</strong> Law Tripos, two for distinguished<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in Jurisprudence shown by candidates in Part IB or Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Law Tripos, and one for<br />
distinguished pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in Roman Law or in Jurisprudence or in both those subjects shown by a<br />
candidate in <strong>the</strong> LL.M. Examination, who shall have taken <strong>the</strong> examination before fifteen complete<br />
terms have passed after his or her first term <strong>of</strong> residence.<br />
3. The value <strong>of</strong> each Prize shall be one-sixth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> George Long Fund.<br />
LONGSDON TRUST FUND<br />

Four-fifths <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Longsdon Trust Fund, which was established in 1783 under <strong>the</strong> will<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Reverend Richard Jackson, M.A., formerly <strong>of</strong> Trinity College, shall be applied to <strong>the</strong> maintenance<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Jacksonian Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship <strong>of</strong> Natural Philosophy and one-fifth shall be applied to support <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> Botanic Garden in such manner as <strong>the</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Botanic Garden shall determine.
