4. Before <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Easter Term each year, <strong>the</strong> Board shall give notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> date by<br />
which and <strong>the</strong> manner in which applications for <strong>the</strong> Scholarship to be held in <strong>the</strong> next but one following<br />
academical year are to be submitted. An election to <strong>the</strong> Scholarship shall be held during <strong>the</strong> academical<br />
year prior to <strong>the</strong> Scholarship’s being taken up, on a date to be determined by <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />
5. The Scholarship shall be tenable from <strong>the</strong> date on which <strong>the</strong> student comes into residence until<br />
30 September <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> calendar year next following. A Scholar shall be eligible for re-election on not<br />
more than two occasions.<br />
6. There shall be paid to <strong>the</strong> Charles Oldham Classical Scholarship Fund one half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> net annual<br />
income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Oldham Bequest. The emolument <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholarship shall be such sum, not exceeding<br />
<strong>the</strong> available income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board within a range approved<br />
from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council. The emolument shall be paid in such instalments as <strong>the</strong> Board shall<br />
from time to time determine, provided that <strong>the</strong> Board may withhold payment <strong>of</strong> any instalment if <strong>the</strong>y<br />
are not satisfied that <strong>the</strong> Scholar is pursuing his or her course <strong>of</strong> study with sufficient diligence.<br />
7. Unexpended income shall be allowed to accumulate in <strong>the</strong> Fund and shall be applied to <strong>the</strong><br />
fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> classical study or research in such manner as <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board shall from time to time<br />
determine.<br />
8. The Board may delegate any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir functions concerning <strong>the</strong> Scholarship to a Committee not<br />
necessarily consisting wholly <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />

The Shakespeare Scholarship<br />
1. There shall be established a scholarship to be called <strong>the</strong> Charles Oldham Shakespeare Scholarship,<br />
which shall be awarded for knowledge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> works <strong>of</strong> William Shakespeare.<br />
2. One half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> net annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Oldham Bequest shall be paid to <strong>the</strong> Charles Oldham<br />
Shakespeare Scholarship Fund. The annual value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholarship shall be such sum as shall be<br />
determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> English within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />
3. The election <strong>of</strong> a Scholar, which shall be made by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> English, shall take place<br />
not later than <strong>the</strong> last day <strong>of</strong> July each year.<br />
4. The Scholar shall be required to undertake advanced study in connection with English literature.<br />
5. The Scholarship shall be tenable for one year from 1 October next following <strong>the</strong> election, but a<br />
Scholar shall be eligible for re-election on not more than two occasions.<br />
6. The Board may take such steps as <strong>the</strong>y think fit to inquire into <strong>the</strong> qualifications <strong>of</strong> candidates<br />
and <strong>the</strong>ir knowledge <strong>of</strong> William Shakespeare’s works; provided that <strong>the</strong> Scholarship shall not be<br />
awarded on <strong>the</strong> result <strong>of</strong> a competitive examination.<br />
7. The Scholarship shall be open to any person<br />
(a) who is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in statu pupillari,<br />
or<br />
(b) who is, or is about to be, registered as a Graduate Student in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
8. The Faculty Board shall announce, not later than <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term each year, <strong>the</strong><br />
date by which, and <strong>the</strong> manner in which, applications are to be submitted.<br />
9. The Scholar shall make a report at <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> award on <strong>the</strong> work carried out<br />
during <strong>the</strong> year <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> award.<br />
10. From any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board may make grants to<br />
Graduate Students to assist in meeting <strong>the</strong> expenses <strong>of</strong> research in English literature.<br />
11. The Board may delegate any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir functions concerning <strong>the</strong> Scholarship to a Committee not<br />
necessarily consisting wholly <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />
MICHELLE ONG HISTORY U NDERGRADUATE TRAVEL FUND<br />
Title and<br />
purpose.<br />
Grace 7 <strong>of</strong> 5 December 2012<br />
1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £30,000 received from Michelle Ong shall form a Fund called <strong>the</strong> Michelle Ong<br />
History Undergraduate Travel Fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used to provide grants to undergraduate<br />
student members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> History to cover travel and research expenses relating to <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
studies, with a preference for providing grants to students who would not o<strong>the</strong>rwise have <strong>the</strong> opportunity<br />
to visit or access primary source materials, including libraries, archives, and collections across <strong>the</strong> UK<br />
and around <strong>the</strong> world.
