842 TRUST EMOLUMENTS<br />
HEITLAND AND WILLIAM ALDIS WRIGHT FUND<br />
Two-thirds <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> residue <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> estate <strong>of</strong> William Emerton Heitland, M.A., <strong>of</strong> St John’s College, and<br />
<strong>the</strong> assets remaining on 11 January 1969 in <strong>the</strong> William Aldis Wright Pension Fund shall form a fund<br />
called <strong>the</strong> Heitland and William Aldis Wright Fund, <strong>the</strong> capital and income <strong>of</strong> which shall be applied<br />
from time to time for such purposes in connection with <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library as <strong>the</strong> Library Syndicate<br />
shall in <strong>the</strong>ir absolute discretion think fit.<br />

JOHN AND MARGARET HENDERSON MEMORIAL PRIZE<br />
1. The sum <strong>of</strong> five thousand dollars received from Dr A. Comfort, M.A., M.B., B.Chir., <strong>of</strong> Trinity<br />
College, and Mrs Comfort shall form a fund for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> awarding an annual prize in <strong>the</strong> field<br />
<strong>of</strong> Gerontology and Geriatrics.<br />
2. The title <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> prize shall be <strong>the</strong> John and Margaret Henderson Memorial Prize, in memory <strong>of</strong><br />
Mrs Comfort’s parents.<br />
3. The Prize shall be open to any member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> who is pursuing clinical study in<br />
<strong>Cambridge</strong> for <strong>the</strong> degrees <strong>of</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Medicine and Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Surgery and has not yet taken<br />
Part III <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Final M.B. Examination.<br />
4. The Prize shall be awarded for an essay or o<strong>the</strong>r written work <strong>of</strong> not more than 3,000 words on<br />
a subject in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> ei<strong>the</strong>r Gerontology or Geriatrics. The work shall be based on <strong>the</strong> candidate’s<br />
actual experience in ei<strong>the</strong>r or both <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se fields, or shall concern proposals, based on that experience,<br />
for innovations in matters <strong>of</strong> care, teaching, or research.<br />
5. In <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term <strong>the</strong> General Board shall appoint two Adjudicators on <strong>the</strong> nomination <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine to serve for one year from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />
The Adjudicators may at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion examine a candidate viva voce.<br />
6. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund. If in any year <strong>the</strong>re is no entry<br />
<strong>of</strong> sufficient merit to justify <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> a Prize <strong>of</strong> full value, <strong>the</strong> Adjudicators may at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion<br />
award a Prize <strong>of</strong> such lower value as <strong>the</strong>y deem fit.<br />
7. Before <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Easter Term <strong>the</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> Medical Education shall publish a Notice<br />
giving <strong>the</strong> last date by which <strong>the</strong> work shall be submitted, provided that such date shall not be earlier<br />
than eight weeks after <strong>the</strong> publication <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Notice.<br />
8. Any unexpended income shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

HIBBITT ENDOWED FUND FOR SOLID MECHANICS<br />
1. The sum <strong>of</strong> US$4m received from <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cambridge</strong> in America, representing a donation<br />
from Dr David and Mrs Susan Hibbitt, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Hibbitt Endowed Fund for Solid<br />
Mechanics.<br />
2. The stipend, national insurance, pension contributions, and associated indirect costs payable by<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in respect <strong>of</strong> a <strong>University</strong> Lecturer, to be known as <strong>the</strong> Hibbitt Lecturer in Solid<br />
Mechanics, shall be payable from <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
3. Any unexpended income in a financial year shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fund.<br />

JOHN HICKMAN PRIZE IN EQUINE STUDIES<br />
1. The sums subscribed in memory <strong>of</strong> Colonel John Hickman, <strong>of</strong> King’s College, Emeritus Reader<br />
in Animal Surgery, who died on 2 January 2000, shall form a fund, to be called <strong>the</strong> John Hickman<br />
Fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used to provide a John Hickman Prize in Equine Studies.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine, <strong>the</strong><br />
Deputy Head <strong>of</strong> that Department, <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Equine Surgeon, and <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Lecturer in Equine<br />
Medicine.<br />
3. The Prize shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part III <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Final Veterinary Examination to<br />
<strong>the</strong> candidate who has obtained <strong>the</strong> highest recommendation on clinical rotations in equine studies<br />
during <strong>the</strong> final year and who has also obtained good marks in Section 1, Equine Studies, in that<br />
Examination.<br />
4. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be a sum determined by <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Veterinary<br />
Medicine, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.
