2. The Fund shall be managed by <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> East Asian Studies in consultation<br />

with and with <strong>the</strong> agreement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong>ficers in Japanese in <strong>the</strong> Department.<br />

3. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Carmen Blacker Prize, which shall be<br />

awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Tripos for<br />

distinction in Japanese in that examination.<br />

4. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers within a range<br />

approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

5. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be used at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers<br />

to purchase, for <strong>the</strong> Library <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, books and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

research material relating to (a) Japanese religion or (b) Japanese history, literature, and thought<br />

before 1945.<br />

F. F. BLACKMAN MEMORIAL FUND<br />

1. The gift to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> from Mrs Elsie Blackman, widow <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late F. F. Blackman, one time<br />

Fellow <strong>of</strong> St John’s College and Reader in Botany, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> F. F. Blackman<br />

Memorial Fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used for <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> subject Plant Physiology in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Plant Sciences.<br />

2. The Fund shall be administered by two Managers who shall be:<br />

(a) <strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Botany,<br />

(b) a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Plant Sciences appointed by <strong>the</strong> General Board on <strong>the</strong> nomination<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Biology.<br />

3. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be to meet <strong>the</strong> payment <strong>of</strong> an honorarium to<br />

and <strong>the</strong> expenses <strong>of</strong> a Lecturer who shall deliver a lecture to be called <strong>the</strong> F. F. Blackman Memorial<br />

Lecture in Plant Physiology. The Managers shall so far as is possible arrange for a lecture to be<br />

delivered at intervals <strong>of</strong> not more than three years. The Managers may make a grant from <strong>the</strong> Fund<br />

towards <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> publishing <strong>the</strong> lecture.<br />

4. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulation 3 any remaining income that is<br />

available may be used for such purposes associated with Plant Physiology as <strong>the</strong> Managers shall from<br />

time to time decide.<br />

DR E. J. BLES FUND<br />

1. The whole <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> available income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dr E. J. Bles Fund shall, in accordance with <strong>the</strong> terms<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Will <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> benefactor, be devoted to <strong>the</strong> promotion and fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> a branch <strong>of</strong> Biology as<br />

a pure science, and none <strong>of</strong> it shall be applied for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> economical, technical, or medical<br />

biology.<br />

2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Charles Darwin Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Animal Embryology, <strong>the</strong> Sir<br />

William Dunn Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Biochemistry, <strong>the</strong> John Humphrey Plummer Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Cell Biology, <strong>the</strong><br />

Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Botany, and <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essors <strong>of</strong> Physiology and Zoology.<br />

3. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> stipend, national insurance,<br />

pension contributions, and family allowances, if any, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Charles Darwin Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Animal<br />

Embryology.<br />

4. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulation 3 <strong>the</strong> remaining income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Fund shall be applied as <strong>the</strong> Managers may from time to time decide towards meeting any expenditure<br />

directly connected with <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor’s work.<br />

5. The General Board shall consult <strong>the</strong> Managers as to <strong>the</strong> subsequent application <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Fund<br />

(a) when <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship <strong>of</strong> Animal Embryology lapses,<br />

(b) during <strong>the</strong> academical year 1984–85 and at intervals <strong>of</strong> twenty-five years <strong>the</strong>reafter,<br />

and effect shall be given to <strong>the</strong> result <strong>of</strong> such consultation provided always that <strong>the</strong> principal object <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Fund, as defined in Regulation 1, shall be maintained.
