21. Grants for this purpose may be made by <strong>the</strong> Managers on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

<strong>of</strong> Pathology, ei<strong>the</strong>r to <strong>the</strong> John Lucas Walker Student or to any o<strong>the</strong>r person engaged in such research,<br />

subject to any conditions made by <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Pathology with <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers. The<br />

recipient <strong>of</strong> a grant shall not necessarily be or become a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

22. If on any occasion <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Pathology shall recommend, and <strong>the</strong> Managers shall be <strong>of</strong><br />

opinion, that a second John Lucas Walker Student should be appointed, and if <strong>the</strong> funds at <strong>the</strong> disposal<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers will admit <strong>of</strong> such appointment, such second Student may be appointed in <strong>the</strong> manner<br />

aforesaid; such Studentship shall be tenable for such period not exceeding three years, and shall be <strong>of</strong><br />

such annual value, not exceeding £400, as <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Pathology, with <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Managers, may determine.<br />

ROBERT WALKER PRIZE IN SURGERY<br />

1. The sums subscribed in memory <strong>of</strong> Robert George Walker, M.A., <strong>of</strong> Trinity College, <strong>University</strong><br />

Lecturer in Animal Surgery, who died on 23 November 1980, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Robert<br />

Walker Surgery Fund, for <strong>the</strong> encouragement <strong>of</strong> study and research in Veterinary Medicine.<br />

2. The Prize shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part III <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Final Veterinary Examination to<br />

<strong>the</strong> candidate who has obtained <strong>the</strong> highest recommendation on clinical rotations in Small Animal<br />

Surgery during <strong>the</strong> final year and who has also obtained good marks in Small Animal Surgery in that<br />

Examination.<br />

3. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

WALLENBERG PRIZE<br />

1. A prize, to be called <strong>the</strong> Wallenberg Prize, shall be <strong>of</strong>fered annually for an essay on some subject<br />

chosen by <strong>the</strong> candidate and approved by <strong>the</strong> Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scandinavian Studies Fund, and<br />

connected with <strong>the</strong> language, literature, history, or civilization <strong>of</strong> one or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scandinavian<br />

peoples.<br />

2. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers within a range<br />

approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council. The sum shall be paid from <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scandinavian<br />

Studies Fund.<br />

3. The competition shall be open to any member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, provided that at <strong>the</strong> time by<br />

which essays are to be sent in not more than nine complete terms have passed since <strong>the</strong> candidate’s<br />

admission to her or his first degree (if any) at this or at any o<strong>the</strong>r university.<br />

4. The Managers may nominate, for appointment by <strong>the</strong> General Board, one or more referees to<br />

report to <strong>the</strong>m upon <strong>the</strong> essays sent in, and shall determine, subject to <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council,<br />

what fee shall be paid to each referee out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scandinavian Studies Fund. The Prize<br />

shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

5. A winner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize may not compete again.<br />

6. The Managers shall publish a Notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize by <strong>the</strong> first day <strong>of</strong> Full Lent Term <strong>of</strong> each year<br />

and <strong>the</strong> essays shall be sent to <strong>the</strong> Registrary by <strong>the</strong> first day <strong>of</strong> Full Easter Term. The subject proposed<br />

by <strong>the</strong> candidate shall be communicated to <strong>the</strong> Registrary, with a view to its approval by <strong>the</strong> Managers,<br />

not later than <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term.<br />

WALSTON FUND<br />

The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fund derived from <strong>the</strong> gift <strong>of</strong> Sir Charles and Lady Waldstein, accepted by <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> in 1911 by Grace 1 <strong>of</strong> 23 November 1911, and now known as <strong>the</strong> Walston Fund, shall be<br />

applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Architecture and History <strong>of</strong> Art for <strong>the</strong> advancement<br />

<strong>of</strong> Architectural Studies and <strong>the</strong> wider teaching <strong>of</strong> Art History.<br />

WALSTON STUDENTSHIP<br />

1. The Trustees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Walston Benefaction shall be <strong>the</strong> Vice-Chancellor, <strong>the</strong> Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Managing Committee <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> British School at A<strong>the</strong>ns, and <strong>the</strong> President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Royal Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

British Architects.<br />
