ELIOT SLATER PRIZE IN PSYCHIATRY<br />
1. The sums made available by <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Psychiatry, from donations received, shall form<br />
a Fund for <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> an annual prize for an essay on a subject in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> psychiatry.<br />
2. The title <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> Eliot Slater Prize in Psychiatry, in honour <strong>of</strong> E. T. O. Slater,<br />
M.D., <strong>of</strong> St John’s College.<br />
3. The Prize shall be open to any member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> who is undertaking clinical study in<br />
<strong>Cambridge</strong> and who was a candidate for Part I <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Final M.B. Examination at <strong>the</strong> last occasion on<br />
which an examination for that Part was held.<br />
4. The Prize shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Psychiatry and two Adjudicators appointed by<br />
<strong>the</strong> General Board on <strong>the</strong> nomination <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine, who may, at <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
discretion, examine a candidate viva voce.<br />
5. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
6. In <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term <strong>of</strong> each year <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Psychiatry shall publish a Notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Prize, giving<br />
(a) <strong>the</strong> particular area <strong>of</strong> psychiatry within which <strong>the</strong> subject <strong>of</strong> a candidate’s essay should fall;<br />
(b) <strong>the</strong> last date by which essays are to be sent in;<br />
provided that such date for entries shall be not less than six weeks after <strong>the</strong> publication <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Notice.<br />
7. In any year in which <strong>the</strong> Prize is not awarded <strong>the</strong> income for that year shall be added to <strong>the</strong><br />
capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

SLAUGHTER AND MAY PRIZE<br />
1. The sum made available annually by Slaughter and May shall be used to provide a Slaughter and<br />
May Prize.<br />
2. The Prize shall be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Law Tripos to <strong>the</strong><br />
candidate who has shown <strong>the</strong> greatest distinction in <strong>the</strong> examination for that Part.<br />

FRANK SMART STUDENTSHIP IN BOTANY<br />
1. The Studentship shall be called <strong>the</strong> Frank Smart <strong>University</strong> Studentship in Botany, and shall be<br />
devoted to <strong>the</strong> encouragement <strong>of</strong> research in Botany.<br />
2. The stipend <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Frank Smart <strong>University</strong> Student in Botany shall be £50, or such larger sum<br />
not exceeding <strong>the</strong> balance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund as <strong>the</strong> Electors shall determine in each<br />
case after taking account <strong>of</strong> any o<strong>the</strong>r financial resources that may be available to <strong>the</strong> Student.<br />
3. There shall be eligible for <strong>the</strong> Studentship<br />
(a) graduates <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, provided that not more than eighteen complete terms have elapsed<br />
after <strong>the</strong>ir first term <strong>of</strong> residence;<br />
(b) Graduate Students, not being graduates <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, provided that not more than nine<br />
complete terms have elapsed after <strong>the</strong>ir first term <strong>of</strong> actual residence.<br />
4. The Electors to <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be <strong>the</strong> Master <strong>of</strong> Gonville and Caius College, <strong>the</strong> Regius<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Botany, and a person appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Biology in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term<br />
to serve for two years from 1 January next following.<br />
5. The successful candidate shall undertake research in Botany in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
6. The conditions under which <strong>the</strong> research is to be conducted, and <strong>the</strong> place or places in which it<br />
is to be carried on, shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Botany.<br />
7. The Studentship shall be tenable for one, two, or three years, as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong><br />
Electors; a student elected for one or two years may be re-elected, subject to a maximum tenure <strong>of</strong><br />
three years in total. The Electors shall have power to terminate <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> a Student if <strong>the</strong>y are not<br />
satisfied with <strong>the</strong> Student’s progress in research.<br />
8. Due notice that an appointment is to be made shall in each case be given. Appointments shall<br />
ordinarily be made as vacancies arise.<br />
9. During any vacancy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship, <strong>the</strong> income shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
10. No member <strong>of</strong> Gonville and Caius College, provided that he or she is o<strong>the</strong>rwise qualified, shall<br />
be debarred from being appointed to <strong>the</strong> Studentship by reason <strong>of</strong> having held or at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
election holding <strong>the</strong> Frank Smart Studentship in Botany founded in <strong>the</strong> aforenamed College.<br />
