WISHART FUND<br />

1. The sum bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> late Mrs Olive Wishart shall form a fund called<br />

<strong>the</strong> Wishart Fund.<br />

2. The annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund and any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be<br />

used to provide a prize or prizes called <strong>the</strong> John Wishart Prize or Prizes in memory <strong>of</strong> John Wishart,<br />

<strong>of</strong> Clare College, formerly Reader in Statistics and Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Statistical Laboratory. The Prize or<br />

Prizes shall be awarded each year by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for <strong>the</strong> examination in Ma<strong>the</strong>matics for <strong>the</strong> M.A.St.<br />

Degree and for Part III <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ma<strong>the</strong>matical Tripos to <strong>the</strong> candidate or candidates who have shown<br />

distinction in statistics in that examination.<br />

3. The value <strong>of</strong> a John Wishart Prize shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Ma<strong>the</strong>matics<br />

within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

4. The foregoing regulations, o<strong>the</strong>r than Regulation 1 and this regulation, shall be subject to alteration<br />

by Grace on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Ma<strong>the</strong>matics to enable all or part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

resources <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund to be used for a purpose similar to that specified in Regulation 2.<br />

BERNARD WOLFE HEALTH NEUROSCIENCE FUND<br />

1. The benefaction <strong>of</strong> £3.7m from <strong>the</strong> Woco Foundation for <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> work in health neuroscience<br />

shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Bernard Wolfe Health Neuroscience Fund to be held in perpetuity.<br />

2. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> stipend, national insurance, and pension<br />

contributions, payable by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in respect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bernard Wolfe Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Health<br />

Neuroscience, toge<strong>the</strong>r with an annual provision in respect <strong>of</strong> recruitment expenses.<br />

3. The second charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be such share <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s central<br />

overheads attributed to <strong>the</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine as is fair and appropriate to be borne by <strong>the</strong><br />

Fund in support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship.<br />

4. From time to time <strong>the</strong> General Board, on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical<br />

Medicine, may establish an <strong>of</strong>fice for a single tenure in place <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship. During any period<br />

that such an <strong>of</strong>fice is held <strong>the</strong> first and second charges on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be as set out<br />

in Regulations 2 and 3 above, save that references to <strong>the</strong> Bernard Wolfe Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Health Neuroscience<br />

shall be treated as references to <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice established under this regulation.<br />

5. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulations 2 to 4, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund<br />

shall be applied to meet <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> such secretarial assistance, research assistance, <strong>of</strong>fice supplies, and<br />

equipment, (in that order), as <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor or holder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice mentioned in Regulation 4 may in<br />

his or her unfettered discretion require.<br />

6. Any unexpended income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund in a financial year shall be<br />

(a) added to <strong>the</strong> unexpendable capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund; or<br />

(b) applied in support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor or <strong>the</strong> holder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice mentioned in Regulation<br />

4; or<br />

(c) accumulated for use as income in future years (in <strong>the</strong> order <strong>of</strong> priorities mentioned in <strong>the</strong>se<br />

regulations);<br />

as <strong>the</strong> General Board, on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine, shall<br />

determine, provided that no unexpended income shall be applied in accordance with paragraph (b) and<br />

no income accumulated in accordance with paragraph (c) shall be used unless <strong>the</strong> General Board are<br />

satisfied that, after applying reasonably prudent assumptions, <strong>the</strong> unexpendable capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund is<br />

sufficient to generate income to support <strong>the</strong> primary purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, as set out in Regulations 2<br />

to 4, in perpetuity.<br />

7. Pending <strong>the</strong> appointment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first Bernard Wolfe Pr<strong>of</strong>essor for Health Neuroscience or (if<br />

earlier) <strong>the</strong> appointment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first holder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice mentioned in Regulation 4, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Fund may be applied in support <strong>of</strong> such research in Health Neuroscience as <strong>the</strong> Woco Foundation may<br />

approve in writing, provided that <strong>the</strong> General Board are satisfied that, after applying reasonably prudent<br />

assumptions, <strong>the</strong> unexpendable capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund is sufficient to generate income to support <strong>the</strong><br />

primary purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, as set out in Regulations 2 to 4, in perpetuity.<br />

8. The Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine shall make an annual report to <strong>the</strong> Woco Foundation on<br />

<strong>the</strong> financial position <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, <strong>the</strong> work supported by it, and <strong>the</strong> detailed expenditures by <strong>the</strong> Fund<br />

under Regulations 2 to 7 for that work.
