MANUEL LOPEZ-REY FUNDS<br />
The sums given to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Mrs Grace Lopez-Rey, in memory <strong>of</strong> her husband, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />
Manuel Lopez-Rey, shall form two funds, <strong>the</strong> Manuel Lopez-Rey Studentship Fund and <strong>the</strong> Manuel<br />
Lopez-Rey Prize Fund.<br />
Funds.<br />
Manuel Lopez-Rey Studentship Fund<br />
1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £25,000 given by Mrs Lopez-Rey in November 1989 shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong><br />
Manuel Lopez-Rey Studentship Fund for <strong>the</strong> encouragement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> Criminology.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Committee <strong>of</strong> Management <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Criminology.<br />
3. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to provide a Manuel Lopez-Rey Studentship, <strong>the</strong> holder<br />
<strong>of</strong> which shall undertake advanced study or research in Criminology. A Studentship shall be open to<br />
any person who is or is about to be registered as a Graduate Student in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, provided that<br />
<strong>the</strong> Managers may give preference to candidates who are citizens <strong>of</strong> countries in which, in <strong>the</strong> opinion<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers, <strong>the</strong>re is a particular need for <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> criminology.<br />
4. The Electors to <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be <strong>the</strong> Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund. The Managers shall give due<br />
notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir intention to proceed to an election.<br />
5. A Studentship shall be tenable for one year in <strong>the</strong> first instance, and may in exceptional<br />
circumstances be renewed by <strong>the</strong> Managers for a second or third year.<br />
6. A Student shall receive such emolument, within a range determined from time to time by <strong>the</strong><br />
Council, as <strong>the</strong> Managers shall determine after taking account <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Student’s financial circumstances.<br />
7. At <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers, any unexpended income in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to<br />
<strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund or accumulated for use as income in a subsequent year.<br />

Manuel Lopez-Rey Prize Fund<br />
1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £2,000 given by Mrs Lopez-Rey in September 1991 shall form a fund, <strong>the</strong> income<br />
<strong>of</strong> which shall be used to provide a prize called <strong>the</strong> Manuel Lopez-Rey Graduate Prize in Criminology.<br />
2. The Prize shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Examiners in Criminology for <strong>the</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> Master <strong>of</strong><br />
Philosophy (one-year course) to <strong>the</strong> candidate who has achieved <strong>the</strong> most distinguished performance<br />
in <strong>the</strong> examination for that subject as prescribed ei<strong>the</strong>r in Regulation 1 or in Regulation 2 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> special<br />
regulations for that examination.<br />
3. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
4. If in any year <strong>the</strong> Prize is not awarded, <strong>the</strong> income for that year shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

MATT LOW FUND<br />
1. The sum given to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> North West Area Retail Fruit Trade Federation shall<br />
form a fund, called <strong>the</strong> Matt Low Fund, for <strong>the</strong> encouragement <strong>of</strong> research in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> into <strong>the</strong><br />
production and storage <strong>of</strong> fruits and vegetables.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Botany and <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Genetics.<br />
The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers in accordance with<br />
Regulation 1.<br />

HEDLEY LUCAS FUND<br />
1. The sums bequea<strong>the</strong>d by Hedley Lucas, poet, and Mrs Gertrude Elaine Lucas, his wife, shall<br />
form a Hedley Lucas Fund, <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> which shall be to assist, by <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> scholarships or<br />
o<strong>the</strong>rwise, members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> who are preparing to enter <strong>the</strong> Christian Ministry.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity, who may delegate some or all<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir functions under <strong>the</strong>se regulations to a committee not necessarily consisting wholly <strong>of</strong> members<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />
3. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to provide one or more Hedley Lucas Scholarships, to be<br />
held by members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> preparing to enter <strong>the</strong> Christian Ministry. The Scholarships shall<br />
