11. Public notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> election <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer shall be given in <strong>the</strong> first quarter <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas<br />

Term <strong>of</strong> every second year, and <strong>the</strong> election shall take place before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> that term. It shall be<br />

open to <strong>the</strong> Electors to invite any qualified person to undertake <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

12. A Lecturer shall receive <strong>the</strong> income available for <strong>the</strong> stipend <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer for each <strong>of</strong> two<br />

years. The stipend accrued shall be paid to <strong>the</strong> Lecturer following deposition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> copy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lectures<br />

as required under Regulation 9.<br />

HUMANITARIAN TRUST FUND AND STUDENTSHIP<br />

1. The benefaction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Trustees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Humanitarian Trust shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Humanitarian<br />

Trust Fund, <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> which shall be <strong>the</strong> advancement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> International Law.<br />

2. The capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Humanitarian Trust Fund shall be invested in <strong>the</strong> names <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chancellor,<br />

Masters, and Scholars <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cambridge</strong>.<br />

3. The capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be devoted to <strong>the</strong> maintenance in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Studentships,<br />

<strong>the</strong> object <strong>of</strong> which shall be to train Students for work in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> International Law. The income<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, both current and accumulated, shall be applied by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law, on <strong>the</strong><br />

recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Whewell Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> International Law, to <strong>the</strong> payment <strong>of</strong> administrative<br />

expenses not exceeding £40 a year, and o<strong>the</strong>rwise to any purpose connected with <strong>the</strong> study and<br />

development <strong>of</strong> International Law. Any income unexpended in any year shall be accumulated for use<br />

in this manner.<br />

4. One Studentship, which shall be called a Senior Studentship, shall be awarded once every two<br />

years provided that <strong>the</strong>re is a candidate <strong>of</strong> sufficient merit. The Studentship shall be tenable for one<br />

year in <strong>the</strong> first instance, but <strong>the</strong> Electors may renew it for one fur<strong>the</strong>r year.<br />

5. Candidates must produce evidence that <strong>the</strong>y have obtained, or are likely to obtain, before <strong>the</strong> end<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> academical year <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir candidature a degree or diploma at a university or college in <strong>the</strong><br />

Commonwealth <strong>of</strong> Nations, <strong>the</strong> United States <strong>of</strong> America, <strong>the</strong> Continent <strong>of</strong> Europe, <strong>the</strong> former Union<br />

<strong>of</strong> Soviet Socialist Republics, at <strong>the</strong> Hebrew <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Jerusalem, or at any o<strong>the</strong>r university or<br />

college approved by <strong>the</strong> Electors for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> this regulation. They must also produce evidence<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir fitness to engage in advanced study.<br />

6. The Studentship shall not be tenable with a Commonwealth Fund Fellowship, or a College<br />

Fellowship or emolument <strong>of</strong> similar magnitude.<br />

7. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be £1,000 a year or such greater sum as <strong>the</strong> Electors may<br />

determine from time to time; provided always that if a Student holds, or is elected to, ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

emolument, <strong>the</strong> value may be reduced by such amount as <strong>the</strong> Electors may determine. The emolument<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be paid in advance in three instalments, at <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> term.<br />

8. The Electors may grant an allowance to cover in whole or in part <strong>the</strong> expenses <strong>of</strong> travel to and<br />

from <strong>Cambridge</strong> <strong>of</strong> a Student ordinarily resident overseas.<br />

9. The Electors may terminate <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> a Student at any time if, in <strong>the</strong>ir opinion, he or she is<br />

unfit to continue to hold <strong>the</strong> Studentship.<br />

10. The Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law shall advertise <strong>the</strong> Studentship, in each year in<br />

which an election is to be made, in such journals as <strong>the</strong> Whewell Pr<strong>of</strong>essor may consider desirable.<br />

11. Applications shall be required to reach <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board not later than 1 January.<br />

12. Elections shall, if possible, be made before <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term, but <strong>the</strong> Electors shall<br />

not be debarred from making <strong>the</strong>m at any o<strong>the</strong>r time.<br />

13. Awards shall be subject to <strong>the</strong> Student being or becoming a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

14. The Student shall come into residence at <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term following <strong>the</strong><br />

election, subject to dispensation by <strong>the</strong> Electors for good cause.<br />

15. The Student shall pursue a course <strong>of</strong> study under <strong>the</strong> supervision <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Whewell Pr<strong>of</strong>essor.<br />

16. The Student may not during his or her tenure be a candidate for <strong>the</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> LL.M. or for <strong>the</strong><br />

Whewell Scholarship, but may be a candidate for a higher degree, or for a Postgraduate Diploma in<br />

International Law.<br />

17. The Student shall keep terms by residence, provided that after one term <strong>of</strong> residence a student<br />

may be allowed by <strong>the</strong> Electors to reside elsewhere for a specified period, if it is in <strong>the</strong> interest <strong>of</strong> his<br />

or her work to do so.<br />

18. The Electors shall be <strong>the</strong> Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law (or a deputy designated by <strong>the</strong><br />

Chairman for <strong>the</strong> current year), <strong>the</strong> Whewell Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> International Law (or a deputy designated<br />
