770 TRUST EMOLUMENTS<br />

Grants.<br />
foundation (viz. Craven, Pitt, Waddington in <strong>the</strong> first group; Battie, Browne, Davies, Porson in <strong>the</strong><br />
second group); provided that, if <strong>the</strong> Scholars in a group are adjudged to be <strong>of</strong> equal merit, this shall<br />
be announced and <strong>the</strong> Scholarship senior in foundation shall be awarded to <strong>the</strong> Scholar whose name<br />
comes first in alphabetical order.<br />
7. A Scholarship shall be tenable for three years from 1 October preceding <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> award.<br />
Each Scholar shall receive <strong>the</strong> emolument <strong>of</strong> his or her Scholarship in such instalments as shall be<br />
determined by <strong>the</strong> Council on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Classics.<br />
8. After <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> emoluments <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholarships, and after payment <strong>of</strong> any fees to<br />
Awarders under Regulation 5 above, any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> several Funds may<br />
be applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Classics to provide grants for <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong><br />
knowledge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> languages and civilizations <strong>of</strong> ancient Greece and Rome.<br />

MRS CLAUDE BEDDINGTON FUND AND PRIZES<br />
1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £500 bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> late Mrs Frances E<strong>the</strong>l Beddington shall<br />
form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Mrs Claude Beddington Fund.<br />
2. One half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied to provide a prize in English Literature, to<br />
be called <strong>the</strong> Mrs Claude Beddington English Literature Prize; <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Fund shall be applied to provide a prize in Modern Languages, to be called <strong>the</strong> Mrs Claude Beddington<br />
Modern Languages Prize.<br />
3. The Mrs Claude Beddington English Literature Prize shall be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> Examiners<br />
for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> English Tripos to <strong>the</strong> undergraduate who has shown <strong>the</strong> greatest distinction in <strong>the</strong><br />
examination for that Part, provided that he or she attains <strong>the</strong> standard <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first class.<br />
4. The Mrs Claude Beddington Modern Languages Prize shall be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> Examiners<br />
for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos to <strong>the</strong> undergraduate who has shown <strong>the</strong><br />
greatest distinction in <strong>the</strong> examination for that Part, provided that he or she attains <strong>the</strong> standard <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
first class.<br />
5. The sum paid to each prize-winner shall be spent in <strong>the</strong> purchase <strong>of</strong> books selected by <strong>the</strong> prizewinner<br />
subject to <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Vice-Chancellor.<br />
6. If in any year a Prize is not awarded, <strong>the</strong> unexpended income for that year shall be added to <strong>the</strong><br />
capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
BEDFORD TRAVELLING GRANT IN GEOGRAPHY<br />
1. The benefaction <strong>of</strong> an anonymous donor shall form a fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be applied<br />
to provide one or more annual travelling grants each <strong>of</strong> such value as may be determined from time<br />
to time by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Cambridge</strong> <strong>University</strong> Geographical Society with <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council, provided<br />
that <strong>the</strong>ir combined value shall not exceed <strong>the</strong> available income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund. Any part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund not expended in any year or set aside for <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> an additional grant in a subsequent<br />
year shall be accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> establishing a prize from a date to be<br />
determined.<br />
2. The rules governing <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se grants, o<strong>the</strong>r than <strong>the</strong> rules governing its name and<br />
purpose, may be varied from time to time by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Cambridge</strong> <strong>University</strong> Geographical Society with <strong>the</strong><br />
approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council, provided that during <strong>the</strong> lifetime <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> donor no alteration shall be made<br />
without <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> donor.<br />

THEODORE CHAPIN BEEBE FUND<br />
1. The sum bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> late Mrs E<strong>the</strong>l Haskins Beebe, <strong>of</strong> Boston,<br />
Massachusetts, shall at her request be known as <strong>the</strong> Gift <strong>of</strong> Theodore Chapin Beebe, and shall form a<br />
fund to be called <strong>the</strong> Theodore Chapin Beebe Fund.<br />
2. In accordance with <strong>the</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> Mrs Beebe’s bequest <strong>the</strong> capital and income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall<br />
be applied for such purposes in connection with medical instruction, research, or experiments in <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> as <strong>the</strong> Vice-Chancellor for <strong>the</strong> time being shall in his or her absolute discretion select.<br />
3. Any unapplied balance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Fund.
