810 TRUST EMOLUMENTS<br />

Title.<br />

Purpose.<br />

BRIAN DOUGLAS FUND<br />

1. The sum received under <strong>the</strong> Will <strong>of</strong> Brian Kirkbride Douglas, Mus.B., <strong>of</strong> St John’s College, shall<br />

form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Brian Douglas Fund.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be placed at <strong>the</strong> disposal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Music, and shall be<br />

used for <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> music in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> and for such o<strong>the</strong>r purposes connected<br />

with music in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Music as <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Music shall decide.<br />

DREWITT PRIZE<br />

1. The benefaction <strong>of</strong> Mr H. W. Drewitt shall form a fund <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used to<br />

provide a prize called <strong>the</strong> Drewitt Prize.<br />

2. The Prize shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part IB <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Natural Sciences Tripos for an<br />

outstanding performance in <strong>the</strong> subject Ecology in that examination.<br />

3. If in any year <strong>the</strong> Prize is not awarded, <strong>the</strong> income for that year shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

GORDON DUFF FUND AND PRIZE<br />

1. The sum bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> late Edward Gordon Duff shall form a fund called<br />

<strong>the</strong> Gordon Duff Fund.<br />

2. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be to provide a Gordon Duff Prize for an essay on any one<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following subjects: bibliography, palaeography, typography, book-binding, book illustration, <strong>the</strong><br />

science <strong>of</strong> books and manuscripts, and <strong>the</strong> arts relating <strong>the</strong>reto.<br />

3. The Prize shall be open to all members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, and shall be <strong>of</strong>fered for award annually.<br />

Public notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be given by <strong>the</strong> Library Syndicate not later than <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Michaelmas Term.<br />

4. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Library Syndicate within<br />

a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

5. Each candidate shall inform <strong>the</strong> Deputy Librarian <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> proposed<br />

subject <strong>of</strong> his or her essay not later than <strong>the</strong> last day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term. The Deputy Librarian<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library shall submit <strong>the</strong> proposed subject to <strong>the</strong> Library Syndicate and shall inform<br />

<strong>the</strong> candidate whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>y approve <strong>the</strong> subject.<br />

6. Not more than two Adjudicators shall be appointed by <strong>the</strong> Library Syndicate at such time that in<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir selection <strong>the</strong> Syndicate may take account <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> subjects approved for essays. In any year in<br />

which one or more essays are submitted each Adjudicator shall receive from <strong>the</strong> Fund such sum as<br />

may be determined by <strong>the</strong> Library Syndicate within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

7. Essays shall be submitted to <strong>the</strong> Deputy Librarian <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library so as to arrive not<br />

later than <strong>the</strong> last day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term. Each essay, which shall not exceed 10,000 words in length,<br />

shall be printed or typewritten.<br />

8. The Prize shall be awarded in <strong>the</strong> Easter Term. If essays <strong>of</strong> sufficient merit are submitted, it shall<br />

be open to <strong>the</strong> Adjudicators to award an additional Prize not exceeding in value such sum as shall be<br />

determined by <strong>the</strong> Library Syndicate within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council. If on<br />

any occasion <strong>the</strong>re is no candidate <strong>of</strong> sufficient merit to deserve a Prize, <strong>the</strong> prize-money for that year<br />

shall be available for use as income in accordance with <strong>the</strong> provisions <strong>of</strong> Regulation 10.<br />

9. The Prize-winner shall ensure that a printed or typewritten copy <strong>of</strong> his or her essay is deposited<br />

in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library, and shall not receive <strong>the</strong> prize-money until this has been done.<br />

10. After provision has been made for <strong>the</strong> Prize or Prizes, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied<br />

from time to time at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Library Syndicate to purchase for <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library old<br />

or rare manuscripts, printed books, and book-bindings, in <strong>the</strong> selection and purchase <strong>of</strong> which preference<br />

shall be given to those written, printed, executed, or produced before AD 1700.<br />

11. No part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be available for <strong>the</strong> general expenses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

Library.
