7. The lectures shall be called <strong>the</strong> Ellen McArthur Lectures and <strong>the</strong>y shall be delivered in Full Term<br />

during <strong>the</strong> academical year next but one following that in which <strong>the</strong> Lecturer is appointed.<br />

8. The stipend to be <strong>of</strong>fered to each Lecturer shall be such sum not exceeding half <strong>the</strong> estimated<br />

income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund for one year as <strong>the</strong> Managers shall determine.<br />

9. After provision has been made in accordance with <strong>the</strong> foregoing Regulations 3–8 any unexpended<br />

income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied from time to time at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers<br />

and subject to such conditions as <strong>the</strong>y may think fit for <strong>the</strong> following purposes:<br />

(a) To make grants towards <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> publication <strong>of</strong> any work for which an Ellen McArthur Prize<br />

has been awarded or which has been commended by <strong>the</strong> Assessors for such a Prize, or towards<br />

<strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> publication <strong>of</strong> an Ellen McArthur Lecture or series <strong>of</strong> lectures. No such grant shall<br />

be paid until <strong>the</strong> material for which it has been awarded has been published. As a condition <strong>of</strong><br />

making a grant <strong>the</strong> Managers may require any work or any lecture to be abridged or o<strong>the</strong>rwise<br />

altered before publication.<br />

(b) To reimburse an Ellen McArthur Lecturer for expenses incurred in connection with <strong>the</strong> performance<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

(c) To provide for not more than three Ellen McArthur Studentships <strong>the</strong> holders <strong>of</strong> which shall<br />

devote <strong>the</strong>mselves to original research in Economic History. The Electors to <strong>the</strong> Studentships<br />

shall be <strong>the</strong> Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund who, on each occasion when <strong>the</strong>y intend to proceed to an<br />

election, shall announce <strong>the</strong> date by which applications must be received and <strong>the</strong> manner in<br />

which <strong>the</strong>y must be submitted. A Studentship shall be open to any person who is or is about to<br />

become registered as a Graduate Student in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>. The tenure <strong>of</strong> a Studentship shall be<br />

for a period <strong>of</strong> not more than three years from 1 October following <strong>the</strong> election; a Studentship<br />

may be renewed, subject to a maximum tenure <strong>of</strong> three years. The stipend <strong>of</strong> a Student shall be<br />

such sum as may be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers within a range approved from time to time by<br />

<strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

(d) To make grants in aid <strong>of</strong> research in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in Economic History.<br />

(e) To fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> study in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Economic History by any o<strong>the</strong>r means.<br />

10. The Managers shall make an Annual Report on <strong>the</strong>ir administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund to <strong>the</strong> General<br />

Board and to <strong>the</strong> Faculty Boards <strong>of</strong> Economics and <strong>of</strong> History.<br />

NORMAN MACCOLL L ECTURESHIP<br />

1. The bequest <strong>of</strong> Norman Maccoll, M.A., <strong>of</strong> Downing College, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Norman<br />

Maccoll Lectureship Fund.<br />

2. A Norman Maccoll Lecturer shall be appointed from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Modern<br />

and Medieval Languages. It shall be <strong>the</strong> duty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer to deliver in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> one or more<br />

lectures on a subject in Hispanic or Portuguese studies. The Faculty Board shall seek to ensure that<br />

during a five-year period not fewer than five Norman Maccoll Lectures are delivered.<br />

3. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> stipend <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer, which shall be<br />

such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board within a range approved from time to time by<br />

<strong>the</strong> Council. In addition, <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board may at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion pay any expenses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer.<br />

If and whenever <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall exceed <strong>the</strong> amount required for <strong>the</strong> payment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

stipend and o<strong>the</strong>r expenses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer, <strong>the</strong> excess <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income over that amount may be applied<br />

to pay any o<strong>the</strong>r expenses incurred in <strong>the</strong> holding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lecture.<br />

MACCURDY LIBRARY FUND<br />

1. The sum bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> under <strong>the</strong> Will <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Dr J. T. MacCurdy, formerly<br />

<strong>University</strong> Lecturer in Psychopathology and Fellow <strong>of</strong> Corpus Christi College, which was accepted by<br />

Grace 3 <strong>of</strong> 15 November 1947, shall form a fund known as <strong>the</strong> MacCurdy Library Fund.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used for <strong>the</strong> provision and maintenance <strong>of</strong> a Psychopathological<br />

Library in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> or for <strong>the</strong> provision and maintenance <strong>of</strong> a collection <strong>of</strong> Psychopathological<br />

works in some Library in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in such manner as <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Experimental Psychology<br />

shall direct.<br />
