Fund.<br />
Purpose.<br />
LEVERTON HARRIS FUND<br />
1. The moneys received by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> under <strong>the</strong> Will <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Rt Hon. F. Leverton Harris in 1926,<br />
and announced in <strong>the</strong> Reporter on 7 December 1926, shall be called <strong>the</strong> Leverton Harris Fund.<br />
2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be expended from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fitzwilliam<br />
Museum on <strong>the</strong> purchase <strong>of</strong> works <strong>of</strong> art.<br />

BENN W. LEVY FUND AND STUDENTSHIP<br />
1. The Fund shall be called <strong>the</strong> Benn W. Levy Fund, and shall be devoted to <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong><br />
original research in Biochemistry.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be<br />
(a) <strong>the</strong> Sir William Dunn Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Biochemistry, who shall be Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers;<br />
(b) one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine;<br />
(c) one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine;<br />
(d) two persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Biology;<br />
(e) one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Physics and Chemistry.<br />
Managers in classes (b)–(e) shall be appointed in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for four years from<br />
1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment. No resolution <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers shall be valid unless approved<br />
by at least three <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m at a meeting to which <strong>the</strong>y have all been summoned, save that a resolution<br />
circulated to and signed by all <strong>the</strong> Managers shall have <strong>the</strong> same validity as a resolution carried at a<br />
meeting.<br />
3. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> present Trust Fund not exceeding £100 per annum shall from time to time as<br />
and when received be paid to <strong>the</strong> Managers and placed to a separate account, and shall be applied<br />
from time to time to endow a Studentship to be called <strong>the</strong> Benn W. Levy Studentship, <strong>the</strong> holder <strong>of</strong><br />
which shall undertake original research in Biochemistry. Any income from <strong>the</strong> Trust Fund not applied<br />
for <strong>the</strong> purpose aforesaid or accruing during any vacancy in <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be accumulated and<br />
added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, 1 and when such Trust Fund toge<strong>the</strong>r with such accumulated income<br />
shall amount to £4,000 2 <strong>the</strong> full income <strong>of</strong> such Trust Fund and accumulated fund shall be applied for<br />
<strong>the</strong> purposes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> said Studentship; but <strong>the</strong> Managers shall have power at any time and from time to<br />
time to apply <strong>the</strong> accumulations or any part <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong> to make good any deficiency in <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong><br />
£100 per annum in any year.<br />
4. The Managers shall give due notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir intention to proceed to an election.<br />
5. The Studentship shall be open to members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cambridge</strong> who have been<br />
admitted to a degree. It shall not be awarded on <strong>the</strong> result <strong>of</strong> a competitive examination.<br />
6. The emolument <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers within a range approved<br />
from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />
7. The Studentship shall be tenable for such period as <strong>the</strong> Managers shall determine on <strong>the</strong> occasion<br />
<strong>of</strong> each election.<br />
8. Any balance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, after payment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> stipend <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Student, may be<br />
used by <strong>the</strong> Managers at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion<br />
(a) to provide one or more additional Studentships;<br />
(b) to make grants to <strong>the</strong> holder <strong>of</strong> a Studentship towards <strong>the</strong> expenses <strong>of</strong> his or her research.<br />
9. The Student during <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall undertake original research in Biochemistry,<br />
and shall not systematically follow any business or pr<strong>of</strong>ession, or engage in any educational or o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
work, which, in <strong>the</strong> opinion <strong>of</strong> those entrusted with <strong>the</strong> administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, would seriously<br />
interfere with his or her inquiries. In any books, papers, or o<strong>the</strong>r publications containing <strong>the</strong> results <strong>of</strong><br />
investigations carried out during <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship, <strong>the</strong> Student shall, where practicable,<br />
use <strong>the</strong> title ‘Benn W. Levy Student’.<br />
10. These regulations, except Regulations 1, 3, 9, and this regulation shall be subject to alteration<br />
by Grace, always provided that <strong>the</strong> main object <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, namely <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> original research<br />
in Biochemistry, shall be adhered to.<br />
