<strong>of</strong> four years from 1 January following her or his appointment;<br />

(e) <strong>the</strong> Squire Law Librarian.<br />
4. Any unexpended income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund in a financial year may be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Fund or accumulated for use as income in future years, as <strong>the</strong> Managers may determine.<br />

REBECCA FLOWER SQUIRE FUND<br />

1. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Rebecca Flower Squire Fund shall be applied (a) in accordance with Regulations<br />
3–8 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se regulations to provide Squire Scholarships in Law, one half (or as near as may be) <strong>of</strong><br />
which shall be called Rebecca Flower Squire Scholarships and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r half James William Squire<br />
Scholarships, (b) in accordance with Regulations 9–13 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se regulations to provide Squire Postgraduate<br />
Studentships in Law, and (c) in accordance with Regulation 14 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se regulations to make grants on<br />
grounds <strong>of</strong> financial hardship to Scholars and o<strong>the</strong>r persons engaged in <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> law.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law, who may delegate any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
functions under <strong>the</strong>se regulations to a Committee consisting <strong>of</strong> not less than three members at least<br />
one <strong>of</strong> whom shall be a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board.<br />

3. The Managers shall publish not later than <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term in each year a Notice<br />
inviting applications for Scholarships.<br />
4. Any student who is qualified under Statute E, XLIII, 2(a) shall be eligible for election to a<br />
Scholarship.<br />
5. Applications for Scholarships shall be made on forms which may be obtained from <strong>the</strong> Secretary<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law and which must be completed and returned to <strong>the</strong> Secretary, through<br />
candidates’ Tutors, so as to arrive not later than <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term.<br />
6. The Managers shall at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion elect into Scholarships those candidates whom <strong>the</strong>y consider<br />
to have shown outstanding merit or promise in school or university examinations. They may require<br />
candidates to attend for interview. If in <strong>the</strong> opinion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers two or more candidates show<br />
equal merit, preference as prescribed in Statute E, XLIII, 2(b) shall be given to <strong>the</strong> Founder’s kin and<br />
to candidates born within <strong>the</strong> parish <strong>of</strong> St Mary Newington, London. The Managers shall announce<br />
elections to Scholarships not later than 30 November.<br />
7. The value <strong>of</strong> a Scholarship shall be such sum, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong><br />
Council, as <strong>the</strong> Managers may determine in each particular case after taking into account any o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
financial resources that may be available to <strong>the</strong> Scholar.<br />
8. The tenure <strong>of</strong> a Scholarship, which shall at all times be subject to <strong>the</strong> Scholar becoming or<br />
continuing to be a resident member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, shall begin on 1 October and shall be for one<br />
year in <strong>the</strong> first instance. The Managers may re-elect a Scholar annually until <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> academical<br />
year in which he or she becomes <strong>of</strong> standing to proceed to <strong>the</strong> B.A. Degree and for one year <strong>the</strong>reafter,<br />
provided that on each occasion <strong>the</strong>y are satisfied that <strong>the</strong> Scholar’s conduct, diligence, and financial<br />
circumstances justify <strong>the</strong> re-election; a Scholar who is <strong>of</strong> exceptional ability and who intends to engage<br />
in research in law, may be re-elected for a fur<strong>the</strong>r year. A Scholar who was first elected after proceeding<br />
to <strong>the</strong> B.A. Degree may be re-elected for a second year, but for no longer. At any re-election <strong>the</strong><br />
Managers may vary <strong>the</strong> emolument <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholar.<br />

9. The Managers shall publish not later than <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term in each year a Notice<br />
giving <strong>the</strong> date by which, and <strong>the</strong> manner in which, applications for Postgraduate Studentships are to<br />
be submitted.<br />
10. Any person who intends to engage in research in law and has been admitted, or is seeking<br />
admission, as a registered Graduate Student <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cambridge</strong> and who is qualified under<br />
Statute E, XLIII, 2(a) shall be eligible for election to a Studentship.
