822 TRUST EMOLUMENTS<br />

HANS GADOW MEMORIAL FUND<br />

1. The income derived from Mrs C. M. Gadow’s bequest to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> shall form a fund to be<br />

called <strong>the</strong> Hans Gadow Memorial Fund, <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> which shall be <strong>the</strong> promotion and advancement<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> Vertebrate Zoology.<br />

2. The Fund shall be administered by three Managers who shall be <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Zoology and two o<strong>the</strong>r persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Biology in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term<br />

to serve for five years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />

3. The Fund shall be applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers:<br />

(a) to <strong>the</strong> payment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fee and expenses <strong>of</strong> a lecturer to be called <strong>the</strong> Hans Gadow Lecturer,<br />

(b) to <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> payments in connection with <strong>the</strong> preservation or <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> vertebrate<br />

fauna <strong>of</strong> Great Britain,<br />

(c) to <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> payments towards <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> small biological expeditions approved by <strong>the</strong><br />

Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Biology,<br />

(d) to such o<strong>the</strong>r purposes connected with <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> Vertebrate Zoology as may be approved<br />

from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Biology.<br />

4. The Hans Gadow Lecturer shall be appointed by <strong>the</strong> Managers to hold <strong>of</strong>fice for one year, but a<br />

Lecturer shall not necessarily be appointed every year. The Lecturer shall be required to give one or<br />

more lectures on a subject, approved by <strong>the</strong> Managers, on some aspect <strong>of</strong> Vertebrate Zoology. The<br />

lectures shall be called <strong>the</strong> Hans Gadow Memorial Lectures. The Managers may make a grant from<br />

<strong>the</strong> Fund towards <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> publishing <strong>the</strong> lectures.<br />

ISBEL FLETCHER GARDEN FUND AND SCHOLARSHIP<br />

1. The bequest to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> late Mrs Isbel Fletcher Garden shall form a fund to be<br />

called <strong>the</strong> Isbel Fletcher Garden Fund. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to provide a Scholarship,<br />

which shall be called <strong>the</strong> Isbel Fletcher Garden Scholarship, for <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> study or research in<br />

Archaeology or Astronomy.<br />

2. The Fund shall be administered by four Managers who shall be:<br />

(a) <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Archaeology and Anthropology or her or his deputy;<br />

(b) <strong>the</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Astronomy;<br />

(c) one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Human, Social, and Political Science;<br />

(d) one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Physics and Chemistry.<br />

Managers in classes (c) and (d) shall serve for three years from 1 October following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />

3. The Scholarship shall be awarded from time to time in Archaeology and Astronomy alternately,<br />

if <strong>the</strong>re is a candidate <strong>of</strong> sufficient merit.<br />

4. The Managers shall give at least six months’ notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir intention to proceed to an election.<br />

In such a notice <strong>the</strong>y shall indicate <strong>the</strong> subject <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> award, and <strong>the</strong> date by which, and <strong>the</strong> manner<br />

in which, applications are to be submitted.<br />

5. If, after <strong>the</strong> publication <strong>of</strong> such a notice, <strong>the</strong>re is no candidate <strong>of</strong> sufficient merit in <strong>the</strong> nominated<br />

subject, <strong>the</strong> Managers may at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion make arrangements for <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholarship in<br />

<strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r subject.<br />

6. The Scholarship shall be open to any person who is or is about to be registered as a Graduate<br />

Student in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

7. The Scholarship shall be tenable for one, two, or three years in <strong>the</strong> first instance as <strong>the</strong> Managers<br />

shall determine; a Scholar shall be eligible for re-election, provided that <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholarship<br />

shall not normally exceed three years in total.<br />

8. The annual stipend <strong>of</strong> a Scholar shall be such sum not exceeding <strong>the</strong> available income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Fund as may be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong><br />

Council, after <strong>the</strong>y have taken account <strong>of</strong> any o<strong>the</strong>r financial resources that may be available to <strong>the</strong><br />

Scholar.<br />

9. Any unexpended income may be ei<strong>the</strong>r accumulated for use as income in subsequent years, or<br />

applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers to make grants to <strong>the</strong> Scholar, during <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> his or<br />

her Scholarship, to meet additional costs arising from his or her course, including <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> additional<br />

training, conferences, fieldwork, or o<strong>the</strong>r courses.
