9. The date by which and <strong>the</strong> manner in which application for <strong>the</strong> Scholarships shall be made shall<br />
be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers. Before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term in each year <strong>the</strong> Managers<br />
shall publish a Notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> date and manner which <strong>the</strong>y have determined, and <strong>the</strong>y shall also indicate<br />
<strong>the</strong> date by which <strong>the</strong>y expect to proceed to an election.<br />
10. Unexpended income may be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund or accumulated for use as<br />
income in future years, as <strong>the</strong> Managers may determine.<br />

WRIGHT STUDENTSHIP<br />
1. The object <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Wright Studentship shall be to encourage <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Arabic language and<br />
literature and <strong>of</strong> subjects closely connected <strong>the</strong>rewith.<br />
2. The Electors to <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be <strong>the</strong> Degree Committee for <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Asian and<br />
Middle Eastern Studies.<br />
3. The Studentship shall be open to any member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> who has been admitted to a<br />
degree.<br />
4. The election should be made annually during <strong>the</strong> first half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term.<br />
5. Notice that an election is to take place shall be given by <strong>the</strong> Electors by <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Michaelmas Term preceding <strong>the</strong> election.<br />
6. Applications shall be sent to <strong>the</strong> Registrary by <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term preceding <strong>the</strong><br />
election and shall be accompanied by a statement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> research which <strong>the</strong> candidate<br />
proposes to undertake toge<strong>the</strong>r with such evidence <strong>of</strong> her or his qualifications as <strong>the</strong> candidate may<br />
wish to submit.<br />
7. The Studentship shall be tenable for one year, but a Student may be re-elected for a second year<br />
and again for a third year, but for no longer. In exceptional circumstances <strong>the</strong> Electors may postpone<br />
<strong>the</strong> tenure to a subsequent year.<br />
8. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Electors within a<br />
range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council. The payments shall be made in two half-yearly<br />
instalments in advance, provided that <strong>the</strong> Electors may withhold <strong>the</strong> second instalment if <strong>the</strong>y are not<br />
satisfied that <strong>the</strong> Student has been pursuing his or her course with sufficient diligence.<br />
9. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied in <strong>the</strong> first instance at <strong>the</strong><br />
discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Electors to <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> a second Graduate Studentship. Any income remaining<br />
<strong>the</strong>reafter may be applied, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Middle Eastern Studies<br />
in consultation with and with <strong>the</strong> agreement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong>ficers in Arabic in <strong>the</strong> Department, to<br />
provide Scholarships for undergraduate members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> or to <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong><br />
Arabic in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in any o<strong>the</strong>r way which <strong>the</strong>y may from time to time determine.<br />

WRIGHT ROGERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND<br />
1. The sum bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> late Mrs E. M. B. Wright Rogers with <strong>the</strong> main<br />
purpose <strong>of</strong> founding, in memory <strong>of</strong> her husband Herbert Edwin Wright Rogers, two Wright Rogers<br />
Law Scholarships for pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Laws <strong>of</strong> England shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong><br />
Wright Rogers Scholarship Fund.<br />
2. The Electors to <strong>the</strong> Scholarships shall be <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law, who may delegate any <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong>ir functions under <strong>the</strong>se regulations to a Committee consisting <strong>of</strong> not less than three members <strong>of</strong><br />
whom at least one shall be a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board.<br />
3. The Registrary shall publish a Notice before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term <strong>of</strong> each year announcing<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> two Scholarships.<br />
4. Any person who has successfully completed a degree-bearing course <strong>of</strong> study in any university<br />
or polytechnic in <strong>the</strong> United Kingdom and who has spent at least one year in <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> law shall<br />
be eligible for a Scholarship.<br />
5. Candidates shall send <strong>the</strong>ir applications, accompanied by an outline <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir career and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
proposed course <strong>of</strong> study at <strong>Cambridge</strong>, to <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law so as to arrive<br />
not later than 1 August. Every candidate shall request two persons each to send a written assessment<br />
<strong>of</strong> his or her qualifications to <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law so as to arrive by <strong>the</strong> same<br />
date.<br />
6. An election shall be held not later than 30 September in each year.<br />
