3. The Prizes shall be adjudged by two Examiners nominated by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> English.<br />
Before <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term each year <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board shall nominate one Examiner for<br />
appointment to serve for two years.<br />
4. The examination for <strong>the</strong> Prizes shall be held in <strong>the</strong> Easter Term each year on a day appointed<br />
by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board. The names <strong>of</strong> candidates shall be sent to <strong>the</strong> Registrary by <strong>the</strong>ir Tutors not less<br />
than fourteen days before <strong>the</strong> day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> examination.<br />
5. The examination shall be confined to reading, in public, passages:<br />
(a) <strong>of</strong> classical English prose and poetry;<br />
(b) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Old and <strong>the</strong> New Testament and <strong>the</strong> English liturgy;<br />
(c) <strong>of</strong> a work or portion <strong>of</strong> a work <strong>of</strong> some standard English divine, to be announced by <strong>the</strong><br />
Examiners at <strong>the</strong> conclusion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> preceding year’s examination.<br />
6. The Examiners shall be at liberty to institute a preliminary trial in all or any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> foregoing<br />
subjects, and to admit only such candidates to <strong>the</strong> examination as shall have satisfied <strong>the</strong>m in that trial.<br />
7. The sum available for <strong>the</strong> Prizes shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board within a range<br />
approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council. The Examiners shall have discretion, if candidates <strong>of</strong><br />
sufficient merit present <strong>the</strong>mselves, to award ei<strong>the</strong>r a First Prize and a Second Prize or two Prizes <strong>of</strong><br />
equal value.<br />
8. Each Examiner shall receive from <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund such sum as <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board may<br />
determine within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council. Any expenses incurred in<br />
conducting <strong>the</strong> examination shall be defrayed from <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
9. The winner <strong>of</strong> a Prize shall not be eligible to compete a second time.<br />
10. After provision has been made for <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prizes in accordance with Regulations 7<br />
and 8, <strong>the</strong> remaining income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong><br />
promoting elocution or good reading among <strong>the</strong> students <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>. The Faculty Board may<br />
delegate <strong>the</strong>ir functions under this regulation to a committee not necessarily consisting wholly <strong>of</strong><br />
members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />
11. Any unexpended income in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund or accumulated<br />
for use as income in subsequent years, as <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board may determine.<br />
12. The <strong>University</strong> shall have power from time to time, by Grace, to vary and alter <strong>the</strong> foregoing<br />
regulations as to <strong>the</strong> method <strong>of</strong> conducting <strong>the</strong> examination and awarding <strong>the</strong> prizes, and to make such<br />
new rules as may be necessary for rendering <strong>the</strong> Prizes efficient in promoting elocution or good reading<br />
among <strong>the</strong> students <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>: provided, however, in compliance with <strong>the</strong> wish <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> donor,<br />
that <strong>the</strong> reading <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Old and New Testament, <strong>the</strong> English liturgy, and a work or portion <strong>of</strong> a work<br />
<strong>of</strong> some standard English divine, shall under all circumstances form part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> examination.<br />

WINTON FUND FOR THE PHYSICS OF SUSTAINABILITY<br />
Grace 2 <strong>of</strong> 17 November 2010<br />
1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £20m given to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> Trustees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> David Harding Foundation shall<br />
form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Winton Fund for <strong>the</strong> Physics <strong>of</strong> Sustainability.<br />
2. The purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> promotion and support <strong>of</strong> a programme <strong>of</strong> innovative<br />
fundamental research in physics and o<strong>the</strong>r associated fields called <strong>the</strong> Winton Programme for <strong>the</strong><br />
Physics <strong>of</strong> Sustainability which shall be designed to help meet <strong>the</strong> need for sustainable use <strong>of</strong> natural<br />
resources including in particular energy generation and use.<br />
3. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, who shall also be <strong>the</strong> Committee <strong>of</strong> Management <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Winton<br />
Programme for <strong>the</strong> Physics <strong>of</strong> Sustainability, shall be:<br />
(a) <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Physics;<br />
(b) <strong>the</strong> Cavendish Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physics;<br />
(c) <strong>the</strong> Pro-Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for research;<br />
(d) one suitably qualified person who is not employed by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, appointed by <strong>the</strong> General<br />
Board on <strong>the</strong> nomination <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> School <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Physical Sciences for a period <strong>of</strong><br />
five years;<br />
(e) one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> General Board on <strong>the</strong> nomination <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> donor for a period <strong>of</strong> five<br />
years.<br />
Should ei<strong>the</strong>r a single person hold more than one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> positions named at (a), (b), and (c), or any <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong>se positions be vacant, a fur<strong>the</strong>r Manager or Managers shall be appointed by <strong>the</strong> General Board, on<br />
