3. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied in <strong>the</strong> first instance to <strong>the</strong> maintenance <strong>of</strong> a Studentship<br />

called <strong>the</strong> Henry Carrington and Bentham Dumont Koe Studentship, which shall be awarded for <strong>the</strong><br />

purpose <strong>of</strong> travel in lands where Greek is spoken, preferably in connection with <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> Greek<br />

literature.<br />

4. Subject to <strong>the</strong> foregoing provisions, <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> shall have power to make regulations for<br />

carrying out <strong>the</strong> objects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> trust and to vary such regulations from time to time.<br />

5. The Student shall undertake advanced study or research as specified in Regulation 3, according<br />

to a scheme to be approved by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Classics. Such a scheme shall involve a travel or<br />

residence for not less than four months in lands where Greek is spoken.<br />

6. The Studentship shall be open to any person who is registered as a Graduate Student in <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong>, provided that at <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> election not less than two complete terms have passed after<br />

<strong>the</strong> term <strong>of</strong> his or her admission as a Graduate Student.<br />

7. The Electors to <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Classics, who may take such steps<br />

as <strong>the</strong>y think fit to inquire into <strong>the</strong> qualifications <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> candidates; provided that <strong>the</strong> studentship shall<br />

not be awarded on <strong>the</strong> result <strong>of</strong> a competitive examination.<br />

8. Before <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Easter Term each year <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board shall give notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> date<br />

by which and <strong>the</strong> manner in which applications for <strong>the</strong> Studentship are to be submitted. An election<br />

to <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be held during <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term on a date to be determined by <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />

9. The Studentship shall be tenable from <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> election until 30 September next following.<br />

A Student shall be eligible for re-election on not more than two occasions.<br />

10. The emolument <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be such sum, not exceeding <strong>the</strong> available income <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Fund, as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board within a range approved from time to time by<br />

<strong>the</strong> Council. The emolument shall be paid in such instalments as <strong>the</strong> Board shall from time to time<br />

determine, provided that <strong>the</strong> Board may withhold payment <strong>of</strong> any instalment if <strong>the</strong>y are not satisfied<br />

that <strong>the</strong> Student is pursuing his or her course <strong>of</strong> study with sufficient diligence.<br />

11. Any unexpended income which may accumulate in <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board to make grants for travel in lands where Greek is spoken. Any member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> who is a student <strong>of</strong> Classics shall be eligible to receive such a grant.<br />

12. The Board may delegate any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir functions concerning <strong>the</strong> Studentship to a Committee not<br />

necessarily consisting wholly <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />

H. M. CHADWICK FUND<br />

1. The income received by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> under <strong>the</strong> Will <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor H. M. Chadwick shall form<br />

a fund to be called <strong>the</strong> H. M. Chadwick Fund.<br />

2. The administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be entrusted to a Committee <strong>of</strong> Managers<br />

consisting <strong>of</strong>:<br />

(a) three members appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> English;<br />

(b) one member appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Human, Social, and Political Science;<br />

(c) one member appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Asian and Middle Eastern Studies; and<br />

(d) two members appointed by <strong>the</strong> General Board.<br />

Members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Committee <strong>of</strong> Managers shall be appointed in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for four<br />

years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment. The Committee <strong>of</strong> Managers shall meet at least<br />

once a year, as soon as possible after <strong>the</strong> annual meeting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dame Bertha Phillpotts<br />

Memorial Fund.<br />

3. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used for <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> studentships, prizes, and grants to<br />

promote study and research in any subject listed in <strong>the</strong> Schedule to <strong>the</strong>se regulations. The annual<br />

income shall be divided into two equal sections, one to be available for awards in subjects in category<br />

A as listed in <strong>the</strong> Schedule, and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r for awards in subjects in categories B, C, and D. At <strong>the</strong> end<br />

<strong>of</strong> each year, any unexpended income in ei<strong>the</strong>r section shall, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Committee <strong>of</strong><br />

Managers, ei<strong>the</strong>r be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund or be applied as additional income in <strong>the</strong> following<br />

year in <strong>the</strong> same section.<br />

4. There shall be two Prizes, <strong>of</strong> a value to be determined by <strong>the</strong> Committee <strong>of</strong> Managers, within a<br />

range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council, which shall be <strong>of</strong>fered annually to candidates for<br />

<strong>the</strong> Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic Tripos. The N. K. Chadwick Prize shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong><br />

Examiners for Part I <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tripos for <strong>the</strong> most outstanding performance in that examination. The<br />
