4. Any unexpended income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund in a financial year shall be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Fund or retained for use as income in future years, as <strong>the</strong> Managers may determine.<br />

NITA KING RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP<br />
1. The Scholarship, founded in memory <strong>of</strong> Miss Nita Madeline King, a member <strong>of</strong> a Voluntary Aid<br />
Detachment, who died in France <strong>of</strong> cerebrospinal fever in May 1917, and endowed by Mrs L. King,<br />
<strong>of</strong> Worthing, shall be called <strong>the</strong> Nita King Research Scholarship, and shall be devoted to <strong>the</strong><br />
encouragement <strong>of</strong> original research in <strong>the</strong> etiology, pathology, and prevention <strong>of</strong> fevers.<br />
2. The administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be entrusted to a Board <strong>of</strong> Management consisting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physic, <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Pathology, and two persons appointed, one by <strong>the</strong> Faculty<br />
Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine and one by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine, who shall be called<br />
<strong>the</strong> Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
No resolution <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers shall be valid unless approved by at least two <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se Managers at<br />
a meeting to which all <strong>the</strong> Managers have been summoned.<br />
3. In case a deputy should be appointed to discharge <strong>the</strong> duties <strong>of</strong> any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers aforesaid,<br />
such deputy shall for <strong>the</strong> purposes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se regulations take <strong>the</strong> place and exercise <strong>the</strong> powers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Manager concerned during such time as he or she may be acting as such deputy.<br />
4. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Trust Fund shall be placed to a separate account, and applied from time to<br />
time to endow a Scholarship to be called <strong>the</strong> Nita King Research Scholarship, <strong>the</strong> holder <strong>of</strong> which<br />
shall undertake whole-time study and training for research in <strong>the</strong> aetiology, pathology, and prevention<br />
<strong>of</strong> fevers.<br />
5. The Scholarship shall not be awarded by <strong>the</strong> results <strong>of</strong> competitive examination, but <strong>the</strong> Managers<br />
may take such steps as <strong>the</strong>y may think fit to ascertain <strong>the</strong> qualifications <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> candidates, who shall<br />
be members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
6. The Scholarship shall be <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> annual value <strong>of</strong> £50 or such larger or smaller sum as <strong>the</strong> Fund<br />
may produce, and shall be paid to <strong>the</strong> Scholar by equal half-yearly payments, <strong>the</strong> payment for each<br />
half-year being made in advance.<br />
7. The Managers shall elect in <strong>the</strong> first instance for such period not exceeding three years as <strong>the</strong>y<br />
shall think fit, and shall have power to re-elect a Scholar for any fur<strong>the</strong>r period not exceeding three<br />
years provided that a Scholar re-elected for a fur<strong>the</strong>r period shall undertake original research.<br />
8. The conditions under which <strong>the</strong> research is to be conducted and <strong>the</strong> place or places in which it<br />
is to be carried on shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Pathology in consultation with <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
Managers.<br />
9. Not less than one month’s notice shall be given <strong>of</strong> an election. Elections shall in general be made<br />
as vacancies occur.<br />
10. If, after notice <strong>of</strong> a vacancy, <strong>the</strong>re shall be, in <strong>the</strong> opinion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers, no suitable candidate<br />
for <strong>the</strong> Scholarship, it shall be lawful for <strong>the</strong> Managers to suspend <strong>the</strong> election for a time not greater<br />
than one year, and if at <strong>the</strong> expiration <strong>of</strong> such time <strong>the</strong>re shall, after notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> vacancy given, be<br />
no suitable candidate as aforesaid, <strong>the</strong> election may again be suspended in <strong>the</strong> same way, and so on<br />
until, in <strong>the</strong> opinion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers, <strong>the</strong>re shall be a suitable candidate for <strong>the</strong> Scholarship.<br />
11. During any vacancy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholarship <strong>the</strong> income shall be added to <strong>the</strong> Trust Fund.<br />
12. These regulations, except Regulation 1, shall be subject to alteration by Grace.<br />

KUWAIT FOUNDATION FUND<br />
1. The sums received from <strong>the</strong> Kuwait Foundation for <strong>the</strong> Advancement <strong>of</strong> Sciences shall form a<br />
fund called <strong>the</strong> Kuwait Foundation Fund.<br />
2. The Fund shall be administered by a Board <strong>of</strong> Managers who shall be:<br />
(a) <strong>the</strong> Sadleirian Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Pure Ma<strong>the</strong>matics as Chairman;<br />
(b) <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Pure Ma<strong>the</strong>matics and Ma<strong>the</strong>matical Statistics;<br />
(c) one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> General Board;<br />
(d) one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Ma<strong>the</strong>matics;<br />
(e) two persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Trustees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kuwait Foundation for <strong>the</strong> Advancement <strong>of</strong><br />
Sciences.<br />
