2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Classics, who may delegate any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

functions concerning <strong>the</strong> Fund to a Committee not necessarily composed wholly <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Board.<br />

3. There shall be a prize, called <strong>the</strong> Corbett Prize, which shall be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> Examiners<br />

for Part IB <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Classical Tripos to a candidate who <strong>of</strong>fers Paper 2 in that examination. The Prize<br />

shall be awarded on <strong>the</strong> performance <strong>of</strong> candidates in Paper 2 and in Paper 11 (if <strong>of</strong>fered). In awarding<br />

<strong>the</strong> Prize, <strong>the</strong> Examiners shall have regard to <strong>the</strong> extent <strong>of</strong> each candidate’s knowledge <strong>of</strong> Greek at<br />

<strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> matriculation.<br />

4. The provision <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Corbett Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund. The value<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong><br />

Council.<br />

5. The second charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> an annual lecture, to be<br />

called <strong>the</strong> Corbett Lecture.<br />

6. A Corbett Lecturer shall be appointed each year by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Classics. It shall be <strong>the</strong><br />

duty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer to deliver one lecture in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> during Full Term, on a subject connected<br />

with ancient Greece.<br />

7. The Lecturer shall receive as stipend such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers within a<br />

range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council. In addition, <strong>the</strong> Managers may at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion<br />

pay any expenses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer and any o<strong>the</strong>r expenses incurred in <strong>the</strong> holding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecture.<br />

8. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be applied from time to time at <strong>the</strong><br />

discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers<br />

(a) to make grants to undergraduate members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> who are students <strong>of</strong> Greek to enable<br />

<strong>the</strong>m to travel in lands which were inhabited or colonized by <strong>the</strong> ancient Greeks;<br />

(b) to make similar grants to Graduate Students and o<strong>the</strong>r postgraduate students in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong><br />

Classics;<br />

(c) to assist in any o<strong>the</strong>r way <strong>the</strong> promotion and encouragement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> Greek in <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong>.<br />

SIR ALAN COTTRELL PRIZE<br />

1. The sums subscribed on <strong>the</strong> occasion <strong>of</strong> his seventieth birthday to mark <strong>the</strong> many contributions<br />

in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> physical metallurgy made by Sir Alan Cottrell, formerly Vice-Chancellor, Master <strong>of</strong><br />

Jesus College, and Goldsmiths’ Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Metallurgy, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Sir Alan Cottrell<br />

Prize Fund, which shall be used to provide a prize called <strong>the</strong> Sir Alan Cottrell Prize for Materials<br />

Science.<br />

2. The Prize shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part IB <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Natural Sciences Tripos for an<br />

outstanding performance in <strong>the</strong> subject Materials Science in that examination.<br />

3. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

4. In any year in which <strong>the</strong> Prize is not awarded <strong>the</strong> income for that year shall be added to <strong>the</strong><br />

capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

SIR ALAN COTTRELL PROFESSORSHIP OF MATERIALS SCIENCE FUND<br />

Grace 2 <strong>of</strong> 6 March 2013<br />

1. The moneys received in response to <strong>the</strong> appeal held by <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Materials Science and<br />

Metallurgy to commemorate <strong>the</strong> scientific work <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Sir Alan Cottrell, FRS, former Goldsmiths’<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Metallurgy, sometime Vice-Chancellor and Master <strong>of</strong> Jesus College, shall form a fund to<br />

be called <strong>the</strong> Sir Alan Cottrell Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship <strong>of</strong> Materials Science Fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be<br />

used to support <strong>the</strong> research expenses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sir Alan Cottrell Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Materials Science.<br />

2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be:<br />

(a) <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Materials Science and Metallurgy;<br />

(b) <strong>the</strong> Sir Alan Cottrell Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Materials Science;<br />

(c) one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Physics and Chemistry.<br />

If two or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se <strong>of</strong>fices are held by <strong>the</strong> same person or if one or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> named posts is<br />

vacant or its tenure has expired, <strong>the</strong> General Board shall appoint one or more additional Managers to<br />

Fund and<br />

purpose.<br />
