(c) to assist students in any <strong>of</strong> those Universities who wish to conduct research in zoology or<br />
zoophysiology.<br />
6. Applications for a grant for any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> purposes specified in Regulation 5 shall be submitted to<br />
<strong>the</strong> Committee <strong>of</strong> Managers (i) by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Copenhagen or <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Aarhus on behalf<br />
<strong>of</strong> any person or persons working <strong>the</strong>rein, and (ii) by any person working in this <strong>University</strong>. In any<br />
year <strong>the</strong> income, after meeting any necessary expenses arising from <strong>the</strong> management <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, shall<br />
be divided into two equal parts, <strong>of</strong> which <strong>the</strong> first shall be available for distribution to successful<br />
applicants under (i) and <strong>the</strong> second to successful applicants under (ii). Any unexpended income <strong>of</strong><br />
ei<strong>the</strong>r part shall be accumulated separately and shall be available for expenditure toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong><br />
corresponding part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income in any subsequent year.<br />
7. Any recipient <strong>of</strong> a grant from <strong>the</strong> Fund under Regulation 5 may be required as a condition <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> grant to furnish <strong>the</strong> Treasurer <strong>of</strong> this <strong>University</strong> with such details <strong>of</strong> expenditure from <strong>the</strong> grant as<br />
<strong>the</strong> Treasurer may require, and to submit to <strong>the</strong> Managers at <strong>the</strong>ir request a report upon <strong>the</strong> research<br />
undertaken with its assistance.<br />
WEST MIDLANDS EXAMINATIONS BOARD FUND (WMEB FUND)<br />
1. The assets transferred to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> West Midlands Examinations Board shall form a<br />
fund called <strong>the</strong> WMEB Fund.<br />
2. The capital and income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be at <strong>the</strong> disposal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Local Examinations Syndicate<br />
for <strong>the</strong> following purposes:<br />
(a) to promote and develop examinations administered by Oxford <strong>Cambridge</strong> and RSA Examinations<br />
(OCR);<br />
(b) to provide annually one or more bursaries or prizes for students resident and educated in <strong>the</strong><br />
West Midlands area;<br />
(c) to provide annually one or more bursaries for teachers in service in <strong>the</strong> West Midlands area to<br />
enable <strong>the</strong>m to undertake a period <strong>of</strong> study leave or research with <strong>the</strong> Local Examinations<br />
Syndicate or OCR into some aspect <strong>of</strong> educational development, particularly learning and<br />
assessment.<br />
3. The Local Examinations Syndicate may make such rules from time to time as may be necessary<br />
to govern <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> bursaries and prizes under Regulation 2(b) and (c).<br />

1. The gift <strong>of</strong> Ge<strong>of</strong>frey Peter Cubbin, M.A., Ph.D., <strong>of</strong> King’s College, <strong>University</strong> Lecturer in<br />
German, shall form a fund known as <strong>the</strong> Whalley Fund.<br />
2. There shall be a Whalley Prize which shall be awarded to qualified candidates. The <strong>University</strong><br />
may from time to time define fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> qualifications <strong>of</strong> candidates, but such qualifications shall<br />
always include <strong>the</strong> demonstration <strong>of</strong> a direct reading knowledge <strong>of</strong> one or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following<br />
languages: Medieval Welsh, Gothic, Old Church Slavonic, Medieval Irish, Occitan.<br />
3. The Whalley Prize shall be awarded each year by, jointly, <strong>the</strong> Chairmen <strong>of</strong> Examiners for Part<br />
II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Linguistics Tripos and for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos to <strong>the</strong><br />
student who has shown <strong>the</strong> greatest distinction in <strong>the</strong> examination for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Linguistics Tripos<br />
or Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos, provided that such student is a qualified<br />
candidate for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> Regulation 4.<br />
4. A qualified candidate shall be one who demonstrates a direct reading knowledge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> languages<br />
specified in Regulation 2 in her or his answers to one or more <strong>of</strong> those papers which <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board<br />
<strong>of</strong> Modern and Medieval Languages shall from time to time announce that <strong>the</strong>y have specified for <strong>the</strong><br />
purpose from among <strong>the</strong> papers that may be <strong>of</strong>fered in Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Linguistics Tripos and Part II <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos.<br />
5. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
6. The <strong>University</strong> may, in Dr Cubbin’s lifetime with his consent, or after his death, determine that<br />
<strong>the</strong> Fund should be known as <strong>the</strong> Ge<strong>of</strong>frey Cubbin Fund, and <strong>the</strong> Prize established by Regulation 2 as<br />
<strong>the</strong> Ge<strong>of</strong>frey Cubbin Prize.
