(b) to provide travel grants, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Electors, subject to <strong>the</strong> same maximum as in<br />
section (a), to enable Students to visit countries relevant to <strong>the</strong>ir studies;<br />
(c) for <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> grants to o<strong>the</strong>r persons engaged in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in study or research in<br />

Jebb Studentships<br />
5. The annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to provide <strong>the</strong> emolument <strong>of</strong> three Jebb Studentships<br />
which shall be <strong>of</strong>fered annually, one for <strong>the</strong> advanced study <strong>of</strong> some subject in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> European<br />
literature from <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> foundation <strong>of</strong> Constantinople to <strong>the</strong> birth <strong>of</strong> Dante, one for <strong>the</strong> advanced<br />
study <strong>of</strong> some subject in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> European literature from <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> birth <strong>of</strong> Dante onwards,<br />
and one for <strong>the</strong> advanced study <strong>of</strong> some subject in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> European literature <strong>of</strong> any period.<br />
6. The maximum emolument <strong>of</strong> each Studentship shall be such amount as shall be determined from<br />
time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Electors.<br />
7. If in any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> study <strong>the</strong>re be in any year no candidate whom <strong>the</strong> Electors deem <strong>of</strong><br />
sufficient merit for <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> a Studentship, <strong>the</strong>y may at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion award two Studentships<br />
for that year in one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r fields <strong>of</strong> study.<br />
8. Before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term in every year <strong>the</strong> Electors shall publish a Notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
date by which and <strong>the</strong> manner in which applications for <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be made, and <strong>the</strong> election<br />
to <strong>the</strong> Studentships shall take place not later than <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Long Vacation period <strong>of</strong> residence<br />
next following.<br />
9. Any graduate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> shall be eligible for a Studentship provided that on <strong>the</strong> first day<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Easter Term <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> academical year in which <strong>the</strong> election is to take place he or she has not<br />
attained <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> twenty-six years. A Student may be re-elected for a year at a time, subject to a<br />
maximum tenure <strong>of</strong> four years in all. The age limit shall not apply to candidates for re-election.<br />
10. A Studentship shall be tenable for <strong>the</strong> financial year next following <strong>the</strong> election or re-election,<br />
provided that in exceptional circumstances <strong>the</strong> Electors may postpone <strong>the</strong> tenure to a subsequent year.<br />
11. The Electors may take such steps as <strong>the</strong>y think fit to inquire into <strong>the</strong> qualifications <strong>of</strong> candidates,<br />
provided that <strong>the</strong> Studentships shall not be awarded on <strong>the</strong> result <strong>of</strong> a competitive examination.<br />
12. It shall be <strong>the</strong> duty <strong>of</strong> each Student to undertake advanced study in connection with an author<br />
or authors <strong>of</strong> some literary problem within <strong>the</strong> limits prescribed in Regulation 5. A Student’s proposed<br />
course <strong>of</strong> study shall be approved by <strong>the</strong> Electors, provided that such course may in special cases be<br />
altered or varied with <strong>the</strong> consent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Electors.<br />
13. Every Student shall receive such stipend subject to Regulation 6 as <strong>the</strong> Electors shall determine<br />
in each case after taking account <strong>of</strong> any o<strong>the</strong>r financial resources that may be available to <strong>the</strong> Student.<br />

1. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund established by James Amiraux Jeremie in 1870 for <strong>the</strong> encouragement<br />
<strong>of</strong> a critical study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Septuagint Version <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Old Testament and such o<strong>the</strong>r Hellenistic literature<br />
as may serve to illustrate <strong>the</strong> New Testament shall be used to provide two or more annual prizes,<br />
which shall be called <strong>the</strong> Jeremie Prizes. Any member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> may be a candidate for <strong>the</strong><br />
Prizes provided that at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> examination<br />
(a) he or she has kept five terms,<br />
(b) if a graduate, he or she is <strong>of</strong> not more than ten years’ standing from admission to a first degree,<br />
whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> this or ano<strong>the</strong>r university.<br />
The value <strong>of</strong> each Prize shall be such sum not exceeding <strong>the</strong> available income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund as may be<br />
determined from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity with <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />
2. One or more Prizes shall be <strong>of</strong>fered for knowledge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Septuagint Version <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Old Testament<br />
and one or more Prizes for knowledge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Apocryphal Books and Pseudepigrapha, <strong>the</strong> works <strong>of</strong><br />
Philo and Josephus, and o<strong>the</strong>r Hellenistic writings. A student to whom a Septuagint Prize has been<br />
awarded shall not again be eligible as a candidate for a Septuagint Prize, nor shall a student to whom<br />
a Hellenistic Prize has been awarded again be eligible as a candidate for a Hellenistic Prize.<br />
3. The examination shall be held after <strong>the</strong> division and before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term, on<br />
a day <strong>of</strong> which notice shall be given by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Examinations. The day shall not be any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
days on which an examination for ano<strong>the</strong>r Divinity Prize or Scholarship is held.
