986 TRUST EMOLUMENTS<br />
Purpose.<br />

income.<br />
2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to support conservation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> collections <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Whipple<br />
Museum <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> History <strong>of</strong> Science including <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> resources to obtain specialist conservation<br />
advice and support.<br />
3. The Board <strong>of</strong> History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science shall be responsible for <strong>the</strong> management <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Fund.<br />
4. Any unexpended income in a financial year may be: (a) added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund; (b)<br />
applied under <strong>the</strong> purposes specified in Regulation 2; or (c) applied in support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Whipple Museum<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> History <strong>of</strong> Science with <strong>the</strong> prior consent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> descendants <strong>of</strong> Mr Robert Stewart Whipple<br />
who are recognised by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> at <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Grace to establish <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

R.S. WHIPPLE FUND<br />
1. The sums given and bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Mr R. S. Whipple shall form a fund called<br />
<strong>the</strong> R. S. Whipple Fund.<br />
2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used for <strong>the</strong> purchase <strong>of</strong> instruments, models, or books for <strong>the</strong><br />
Whipple Museum <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> History <strong>of</strong> Science, but not for <strong>the</strong> purchase <strong>of</strong> equipment or for <strong>the</strong> partpayment<br />
<strong>of</strong> running expenses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Museum.<br />
3. The Board <strong>of</strong> History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science shall be responsible for <strong>the</strong> management <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Fund.<br />
SIR LIONEL WHITBY MEDAL AND PRIZE<br />
1. The Sir Lionel Whitby Medal and Prize shall be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> M.D. Committee for<br />
an M.D. <strong>the</strong>sis, which in <strong>the</strong>ir opinion is <strong>of</strong> exceptional merit, and which deals with investigation<br />
carried out in <strong>the</strong> laboratory, preference being given to a haematological subject; provided that if in<br />
any year <strong>the</strong> M.D. Committee declare that no <strong>the</strong>sis <strong>of</strong> sufficient merit has been submitted no Medal<br />
or Prize shall be awarded in that year.<br />
2. The sum available for <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> M.D. Committee within a range<br />
approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

SIR LIONEL WHITBY MEMORIAL FUND<br />
1. A gift <strong>of</strong> £3,500, <strong>the</strong> sum <strong>of</strong> voluntary contributions made by American servicemen and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
American citizens stationed in <strong>the</strong> United Kingdom, and presented to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> on <strong>the</strong> recommendation<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> medical staff and patients <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 7,510th United States Air Force Hospital, Wimpole Park, shall<br />
form a fund to be called <strong>the</strong> Sir Lionel Whitby Memorial Fund.<br />
2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be at <strong>the</strong> disposal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Pathology to<br />
be applied from time to time, at his or her discretion, for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> assisting <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Pathology.<br />
TIM WHITMORE GEOGRAPHY AND ZOOLOGY FUNDS<br />
The income derived from <strong>the</strong> donation <strong>of</strong> £100,000 received from Mrs Wendy Whitmore in memory<br />
<strong>of</strong> her husband Dr Timothy Charles Whitmore, formerly <strong>of</strong> St John’s College and <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />
Geography, shall be divided equally between two funds to be called <strong>the</strong> Tim Whitmore Geography<br />
Fund and <strong>the</strong> Tim Whitmore Zoology Fund.<br />

Tim Whitmore Geography Fund<br />
1. The Tim Whitmore Geography Fund shall be administered by <strong>the</strong> Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Philip Lake<br />
Fund II.<br />
2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers for making grants to<br />
Graduate Students in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Geography towards <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> travel, fieldwork, or research<br />
in <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> conservation and sustainable development.<br />
3. Any unexpended income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund in a financial year shall be accumulated for use as income<br />
in future years.
