4. The Scholar shall be elected by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, who<br />

shall be <strong>the</strong> Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund. When <strong>the</strong>re are two or more applications <strong>of</strong> equal merit <strong>the</strong><br />

Managers shall give preference to a candidate whose interests are wholly or mainly concerned with<br />

<strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sanskrit, Pali, or Avestan languages.<br />

5. The name <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> successful candidate shall be published not later than 31 July in each year.<br />

6. The Scholarship shall be tenable for one year, but <strong>the</strong> Managers may renew it for <strong>the</strong> year next<br />

following and for <strong>the</strong> year next but one following <strong>the</strong> year <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> original tenure. In exceptional<br />

circumstances <strong>the</strong> Managers may postpone <strong>the</strong> tenure to a subsequent year.<br />

7. It shall be <strong>the</strong> duty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholar to undertake study or research in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in accordance<br />

with any conditions which <strong>the</strong> Managers shall impose.<br />

8. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> stipend <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholar. The stipend shall<br />

be such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers in each case, taking account <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r financial<br />

resources which may be available to <strong>the</strong> Scholar, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong><br />

Council. The stipend shall be paid in two half-yearly instalments in advance. The second instalment<br />

shall not be paid unless <strong>the</strong> Managers are satisfied that <strong>the</strong> Scholar has been pursuing his or her studies<br />

with sufficient diligence.<br />

9. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Managers to make grants to students engaged in study or research in Indian Studies and Iranian Studies;<br />

or to make grants for any o<strong>the</strong>r purpose which in <strong>the</strong>ir opinion will promote study or research in those<br />

subjects in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

10. The Managers may delegate any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir functions under <strong>the</strong>se regulations to a Committee<br />

consisting <strong>of</strong> not less than three members not all <strong>of</strong> whom shall necessarily be members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Asian and Middle Eastern Studies.<br />

HANS RAUSING FUND<br />

1. The gift to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> made by Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Lisbet Rausing Koerner, in honour <strong>of</strong> her fa<strong>the</strong>r<br />

Hans Rausing on <strong>the</strong> occasion <strong>of</strong> his seventieth birthday, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Hans Rausing<br />

Fund.<br />

2. A Hans Rausing Lecturer shall be appointed from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> History and<br />

Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science. It shall be <strong>the</strong> duty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer to deliver one lecture in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

during Full Term on a subject in <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong> technology and industry.<br />

3. The stipend <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer shall be such sum from <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund as shall be determined<br />

by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong><br />

Council. In addition, <strong>the</strong> Board may at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion pay from <strong>the</strong> annual or <strong>the</strong> accumulated income<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund any expenses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecturer and any expenses incurred in <strong>the</strong> holding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lecture.<br />

RAUSING FUND FOR HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE<br />

1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £2m, received from Dr L. Rausing, for <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> work in History and Philosophy<br />

<strong>of</strong> Science, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Rausing Fund for History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science. The<br />

Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be:<br />

(a) <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science;<br />

(b) <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science;<br />

(c) <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science;<br />

(d) <strong>the</strong> Curator <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Whipple Museum <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> History <strong>of</strong> Science;<br />

(e) three persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science, who shall be<br />

appointed in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for three years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

appointment.<br />

2. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> stipend, national insurance, pension<br />

contributions, and associated indirect costs <strong>of</strong> a <strong>University</strong> Lectureship in <strong>the</strong> History and Philosophy<br />

<strong>of</strong> Science. On <strong>the</strong> occasion <strong>of</strong> each appointment, <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> candidature, which shall exclude <strong>the</strong><br />

History <strong>of</strong> Medicine, shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science.<br />

3. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulation 2, <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied for<br />

<strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> teaching or research within <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science, but<br />

Fund and<br />
