4. On <strong>the</strong> occasion <strong>of</strong> a vacancy in <strong>the</strong> designated Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship, <strong>the</strong> General Board, on <strong>the</strong><br />

recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Human, Social, and Political Science, may determine that <strong>the</strong><br />

same or ano<strong>the</strong>r Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship in <strong>the</strong> Faculty shall be supported from <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

5. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulation 3, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund may be<br />

applied in support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor in such manner as may be approved by <strong>the</strong> General<br />

Board on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

6. Any unexpended income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund in a financial year may be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Fund or accumulated for expenditure in accordance with Regulations 3 and 5 in one or more<br />

subsequent years, as <strong>the</strong> Managers shall determine.<br />

POLONSKY–COEXIST FUND FOR JEWISH STUDIES<br />

Grace 2 <strong>of</strong> 14 January 2009<br />

1. The sums received by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> from <strong>the</strong> Polonsky Foundation and <strong>the</strong> Coexist Foundation<br />

to support teaching and research in Judaism, with special reference to <strong>the</strong> relations with <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

Abrahamic faiths, namely Christianity and Islam, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Polonsky–Coexist Fund<br />

for Jewish Studies.<br />

2. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> stipend, national insurance, pension<br />

contributions, and associated indirect costs payable by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in respect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Polonsky–<br />

Coexist Lectureship in Jewish Studies in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Divinity.<br />

3. The administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be under <strong>the</strong> control <strong>of</strong> a Committee <strong>of</strong> Management<br />

consisting <strong>of</strong>:<br />

(a) <strong>the</strong> Vice-Chancellor (or a duly appointed deputy) as Chairman;<br />

(b) one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Arts and Humanities;<br />

(c) <strong>the</strong> Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity;<br />

(d) two o<strong>the</strong>r persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity.<br />

4. The members in classes (b) and (d) shall be appointed in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for three<br />

years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment. If one or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fices in classes (b)–(d) are<br />

held by <strong>the</strong> same person or if one or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se <strong>of</strong>fices is vacant or its tenure has expired, <strong>the</strong><br />

Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity shall appoint one or more additional Managers so as to ensure that <strong>the</strong>re are<br />

always five Managers.<br />

5. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulation 2, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund may be<br />

applied for <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> teaching or research in Jewish Studies in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, with special<br />

reference to <strong>the</strong> relations between Judaism and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Abrahamic faiths and more generally to<br />

support <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Abrahamic faiths and <strong>the</strong>ir inter-relations, as shall be approved by <strong>the</strong> General<br />

Board on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

6. Any unexpended income in a financial year shall ei<strong>the</strong>r be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund or<br />

accumulated for use as income in any one or more subsequent years, as <strong>the</strong> Managers may determine.<br />

RONALD POPPERWELL MEMORIAL FUND<br />

1. The sum subscribed in memory <strong>of</strong> Ronald George Popperwell, M.A., Ph.D., formerly <strong>University</strong><br />

Lecturer in Norwegian and Fellow <strong>of</strong> Clare Hall, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Ronald Popperwell<br />

Memorial Fund.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fund shall be used, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Modern and<br />

Medieval Languages for <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> study, teaching, or research in Scandinavian studies in <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> by means such as <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> lectures or seminars, <strong>the</strong> purchase <strong>of</strong> books for <strong>the</strong><br />

Faculty’s library, or arranging commemorative events such as concerts.<br />

3. All disbursements made from <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be associated with <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Ronald Popperwell.<br />

1. The Porson Prize is <strong>of</strong>fered every year for <strong>the</strong> best translation <strong>of</strong> a set passage from an English<br />

poet into Greek verse. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Classics within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />
