(b) to provide £300 a year towards <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Library in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Classics;<br />

(c) to provide £100 a year towards <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s subscription to <strong>the</strong> British School at A<strong>the</strong>ns<br />

until <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> shall o<strong>the</strong>rwise determine; 1<br />

(d) to provide £85 a year towards <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s subscription to <strong>the</strong> British School at Rome until<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> shall o<strong>the</strong>rwise determine;<br />

(e) to provide a sum annually for grants in aid <strong>of</strong> research which sum toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> sums<br />

specified in clauses (b), (c), and (d) shall amount to one-tenth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund available<br />

to <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Classics.<br />

7. After provision has been made for <strong>the</strong> charges detailed in Regulation 6(a)–(e), <strong>the</strong> residue <strong>of</strong> that<br />

portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sir Perceval Maitland Laurence Bequest assigned to <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Classics<br />

shall be transferred to a Reserve Fund known as <strong>the</strong> Sir Perceval Maitland Laurence Fund III to be<br />

used for <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> classical studies in such ways as <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Classics shall from<br />

time to time determine.<br />

HERSCH LAUTERPACHT FUND<br />

1. The sums <strong>of</strong> money subscribed in memory <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Sir Hersch Lauterpacht shall form a fund<br />

called <strong>the</strong> Hersch Lauterpacht Fund.<br />

2. The capital and income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be placed at <strong>the</strong> disposal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law<br />

for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> promoting <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> International Law in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in any way in which <strong>the</strong><br />

Faculty Board may from time to time determine.<br />

LAW ENDOWMENT FUND<br />

1. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Law Endowment Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law, who may delegate<br />

any or all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir functions under <strong>the</strong>se regulations to a committee not necessarily consisting wholly<br />

<strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be expended from time to time, as <strong>the</strong> Managers shall determine,<br />

for <strong>the</strong> general purposes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Law. It shall be open to <strong>the</strong> Managers to add any unexpended<br />

income in a financial year to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

Le Bas Prize<br />

1. A Le Bas Prize shall be <strong>of</strong>fered in every year for an essay on a literary subject. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Prize shall be £100 or such larger sum, not exceeding <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, as <strong>the</strong> Council<br />

shall from time to time determine.<br />

2. Candidature for <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be open to any member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> who is a graduate <strong>of</strong><br />

this or ano<strong>the</strong>r university and who will not have attained <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> thirty years on <strong>the</strong> day by which<br />

essays must be received by <strong>the</strong> Registrary.<br />

3. One Examiner shall be appointed before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term in each year, on <strong>the</strong><br />

nomination alternately <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> English and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> History, to serve<br />

for two years from 1 January next following. Each Examiner shall receive from <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Fund, except when no essay is sent in, such amount as may be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Boards <strong>of</strong><br />

English and <strong>of</strong> History within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

4. If <strong>the</strong> Examiners in any year need assistance in making <strong>the</strong>ir award, <strong>the</strong>y shall nominate one or<br />

more Assessors for appointment by <strong>the</strong> General Board. Each Assessor shall receive from <strong>the</strong> income<br />

The subscription is subject to <strong>the</strong> condition that <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> shall have <strong>the</strong> right to appoint a representative to serve on<br />

<strong>the</strong> Managing Committee <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> School. The representative shall be appointed in each Michaelmas Term on <strong>the</strong> nomination <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Classics.<br />
