4. Before <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Easter Term each year, <strong>the</strong> Board shall give notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> date by<br />

which and <strong>the</strong> manner in which applications for <strong>the</strong> Scholarship to be held in <strong>the</strong> next but one following<br />

academical year are to be submitted. An election to <strong>the</strong> Scholarship shall be held during <strong>the</strong> academical<br />

year prior to <strong>the</strong> Scholarship’s being taken up, on a date to be determined by <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />

5. The Scholarship shall be tenable from <strong>the</strong> date on which <strong>the</strong> student comes into residence until<br />

30 September <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> calendar year next following. A Scholar shall be eligible for re-election on not<br />

more than two occasions.<br />

6. The emolument <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholarship shall be such sum, not exceeding <strong>the</strong> available income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Fund, as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong><br />

Council. The emolument shall be paid in such instalments as <strong>the</strong> Board shall from time to time<br />

determine, provided that <strong>the</strong> Board may withhold payment <strong>of</strong> any instalment if <strong>the</strong>y are not satisfied<br />

that <strong>the</strong> Scholar is pursuing his or her course <strong>of</strong> study with sufficient diligence.<br />

7. From any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund <strong>the</strong> Board may make grants for <strong>the</strong><br />

fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> classical study or research.<br />

8. The Board may delegate any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir functions concerning <strong>the</strong> Scholarship and <strong>the</strong> aforesaid<br />

grants to a Committee not necessarily consisting wholly <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />

9. These regulations, except Regulation 1, shall be subject to alteration by Grace.<br />

HUGH WATSON FUND<br />

1. The sum bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> late Hugh Watson, M.A., <strong>of</strong> Trinity College, shall<br />

form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Hugh Watson Fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used for <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> malacology.<br />

2. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> stipend, national insurance,<br />

and pension contributions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> holder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Assistant Curator in Malacology<br />

(Watson) in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Zoology. After provision has been made for <strong>the</strong> Assistant Curator <strong>the</strong><br />

remaining income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used for <strong>the</strong> maintenance and enrichment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> molluscan<br />

collections and for <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> malacological interests, as <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Biology may from<br />

time to time decide on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Zoology in consultation<br />

with <strong>the</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Museum <strong>of</strong> Zoology.<br />

3. These regulations, except Regulation 1, may be altered by Grace provided always that <strong>the</strong> main<br />

purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, that is to say <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> malacology, is adhered to.<br />

HANNE AND TORKEL WEIS-FOGH FUND<br />

1. In memory <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> distinguished scientific work <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Torkel Weis-Fogh in <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong><br />

zoology and zoophysiology in Denmark and in England <strong>the</strong>re shall be established a fund which shall<br />

be called <strong>the</strong> Hanne and Torkel Weis-Fogh Fund.<br />

2. The capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall consist in <strong>the</strong> first instance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sums bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

from <strong>the</strong> estate in England <strong>of</strong> Hanne and Torkel Weis-Fogh.<br />

3. The object <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be to fur<strong>the</strong>r research in <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> zoology and zoophysiology,<br />

at <strong>the</strong> Departments <strong>of</strong> Zoology and Zoophysiology <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Universities <strong>of</strong> Copenhagen and Aarhus in<br />

Denmark and at <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Zoology <strong>of</strong> this <strong>University</strong>, so as to improve <strong>the</strong> sum <strong>of</strong> communicable<br />

knowledge in those fields.<br />

4. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be administered by a Committee <strong>of</strong> Managers consisting <strong>of</strong> two<br />

persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> General Board and one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Biology<br />

who shall be a <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Zoology but need not be a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Faculty Board. The Managers shall be appointed in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for five years from<br />

1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />

5. Subject to <strong>the</strong> provisions <strong>of</strong> Regulation 3, <strong>the</strong> income shall be applied to make grants<br />

(a) to promote research in <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> zoology and zoophysiology in <strong>the</strong> Departments <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Universities specified in that regulation;<br />

(b) to promote exchange <strong>of</strong> those engaged in research (including students) between those on <strong>the</strong> one<br />

hand in ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Departments <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> two Danish Universities and those on <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Zoology <strong>of</strong> this <strong>University</strong>;<br />
