4. The Managers shall give not less than three months’ notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir intention to proceed to an<br />

election.<br />

5. The Managers may elect to a Fellowship any person whose qualifications <strong>the</strong>y consider suitable,<br />

whe<strong>the</strong>r a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> or not, and <strong>the</strong>y may take such steps as <strong>the</strong>y think fit to ascertain<br />

those qualifications.<br />

6. The tenure <strong>of</strong> a Fellowship shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers. A Fellow shall be re-eligible<br />

but <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> a Fellowship shall not normally exceed three years in all.<br />

7. A Broodbank Fellow shall undertake full-time research in a subject approved by <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

The research work shall be carried out in <strong>Cambridge</strong> (unless in special circumstances <strong>the</strong> Managers<br />

have given leave for it to be carried out elsewhere) and shall be subject to such conditions as <strong>the</strong><br />

Managers may impose.<br />

8. A Fellow may, with <strong>the</strong> permission <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers, undertake not more than six hours’ teaching<br />

work a week for remuneration without suffering any deduction from <strong>the</strong> stipend <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fellowship.<br />

9. The annual stipend <strong>of</strong> a Fellow shall be such sum as may be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers, within<br />

a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council. The stipend shall be paid to <strong>the</strong> Fellow in quarterly<br />

instalments in advance.<br />

10. The Managers may make <strong>the</strong> payment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> stipend <strong>of</strong> a Fellow, or <strong>of</strong> an instalment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

stipend, conditional on <strong>the</strong>ir approval <strong>of</strong> a report from <strong>the</strong> Fellow on <strong>the</strong> progress <strong>of</strong> his or her research.<br />

The Managers may delegate <strong>the</strong> consideration <strong>of</strong> a Fellow’s report to one or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>mselves. Any<br />

such delegation shall be communicated by <strong>the</strong> Managers to <strong>the</strong> Treasurer.<br />

The Managers may terminate <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> a Fellow at any time if, in <strong>the</strong>ir opinion, he or she is<br />

unfit to continue to hold <strong>the</strong> Fellowship.<br />

11. A Fellow shall inform <strong>the</strong> Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> any o<strong>the</strong>r emolument or <strong>of</strong> his or her<br />

intention to undertake work o<strong>the</strong>r than work approved by <strong>the</strong> Managers in accordance with Regulations<br />

7 and 8. On receiving such information <strong>the</strong> Managers shall consider whe<strong>the</strong>r a reduction should be<br />

made in <strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fellow’s stipend.<br />

12. The Managers shall make grants from <strong>the</strong> Fund to cover <strong>the</strong> expenses incurred in <strong>the</strong> appointment<br />

and <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fellows.<br />

13. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be used at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers<br />

for <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> object <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

14. These regulations, except Regulation 1, shall be subject to alteration by Grace on <strong>the</strong><br />

recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

PETER BROOK AWARD<br />

1. The sum given to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Charles Peter Beynon Brook, M.A., FRCPsych, <strong>of</strong> Hughes<br />

Hall, formerly Associate Lecturer in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine, shall form a fund <strong>the</strong> income<br />

<strong>of</strong> which shall be used to provide an award called <strong>the</strong> Peter Brook Award. The purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Award<br />

shall be to encourage students <strong>of</strong> clinical medicine in research in psychiatry or in <strong>the</strong> basic sciences<br />

associated with that branch <strong>of</strong> medicine.<br />

2. The Award shall be open to any person who is pursuing, or has pursued, his or her clinical study<br />

in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> for <strong>the</strong> degrees <strong>of</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Medicine and Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Surgery, provided that no<br />

one shall be eligible to apply for <strong>the</strong> Award more than six months after being admitted to <strong>the</strong> degree<br />

<strong>of</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Surgery.<br />

3. Candidates for <strong>the</strong> Award shall submit a piece <strong>of</strong> research which has already been completed or<br />

partially completed, or a detailed research proposal for a specific piece <strong>of</strong> research to be undertaken.<br />

The research shall concern <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> psychiatry or its associated basic science disciplines and, if<br />

already completed or partially completed, may have been undertaken by <strong>the</strong> candidate at any time<br />

since matriculation.<br />

4. In <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term each year <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Psychiatry shall publish a notice giving <strong>the</strong><br />

date by which, and <strong>the</strong> manner in which, applications are to be submitted.<br />

5. The Awarders shall be <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Psychiatry and at least one o<strong>the</strong>r person appointed by <strong>the</strong><br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor.<br />

6. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Award shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

7. If in any year no award is made, <strong>the</strong> unexpended income shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Fund.<br />
