6. The Prize-winner shall ensure that a typewritten or printed copy <strong>of</strong> his or her dissertation is<br />

deposited in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library, and shall not receive <strong>the</strong> prize-money until this has been done.<br />

7. From any unexpended income which may have accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund <strong>the</strong> Adjudicators may<br />

at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion make grants for <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Religion.<br />

J. P. T. BURY FUND<br />

The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> J. P. T. Bury Fund shall be applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Library Syndicate to<br />

purchase rare French books published between 1814 and 1914. A book plate shall be affixed to each<br />

book so purchased recording that it was purchased through <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

MONTAGU BUTLER PRIZE<br />

1. The Prize shall be a prize in books. It shall be called <strong>the</strong> Montagu Butler Prize, and shall be<br />

awarded annually for <strong>the</strong> best original exercise in Latin Hexameter Verse.<br />

2. On or before 1 June in each year <strong>the</strong> Examiners for <strong>the</strong> Browne Medals shall give public notice<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> subject for <strong>the</strong> exercises, and all exercises must be sent to <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board<br />

<strong>of</strong> Classics on or before 1 February in <strong>the</strong> following year.<br />

3. No such exercise shall exceed in length 150 lines.<br />

4. Any resident undergraduate may be a candidate for <strong>the</strong> Montagu Butler Prize.<br />

5. Each candidate shall send three copies <strong>of</strong> his or her exercise privately to <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Classics. Such copies shall not be in <strong>the</strong> handwriting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> candidate. They shall<br />

bear a motto but not <strong>the</strong> candidate’s name, and shall be accompanied by a sealed envelope bearing <strong>the</strong><br />

same motto outside and containing <strong>the</strong> candidate’s name and College.<br />

6. The Prize shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for <strong>the</strong> Browne Medals who shall receive, unless<br />

no exercise is sent in, such amount from <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize Fund as may be determined by <strong>the</strong><br />

Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Classics within a range approved form time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

7. In every year in which <strong>the</strong> Prize is awarded, a copy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> successful exercise shall be sent to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Master <strong>of</strong> Trinity, to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library, to <strong>the</strong> Library <strong>of</strong> Trinity College, and to each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Examiners for <strong>the</strong> year.<br />

8. In any year in which <strong>the</strong> Prize is not awarded, <strong>the</strong> net proceeds <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund for that year shall<br />

be transferred to <strong>the</strong> funds <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library and shall be spent on <strong>the</strong> purchase <strong>of</strong> editions <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Latin poets, or on <strong>the</strong> purchase <strong>of</strong> books connected with <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> such poets, and every book<br />

so purchased shall contain a record that it was purchased from <strong>the</strong> proceeds <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund for <strong>the</strong><br />

endowment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Montagu Butler Prize.<br />

BUTTERFIELD STUDENTSHIP<br />

1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £10,000 received under <strong>the</strong> Will <strong>of</strong> Verena Nan Robertson McCririck shall form a<br />

fund called <strong>the</strong> McCririck Fund, which shall be used to assist students undertaking research in <strong>the</strong> field<br />

<strong>of</strong> Diabetes.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to provide a studentship each year called <strong>the</strong> Butterfield<br />

Studentship, in honour <strong>of</strong> Lord Butterfield <strong>of</strong> Stechford, M.D., formerly Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physic<br />

and Master <strong>of</strong> Downing College.<br />

3. Candidature for <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be open to any person who is, or is about to be, registered<br />

as a Graduate Student in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, and who is undertaking, or proposes to undertake, research in<br />

<strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> Diabetes.<br />

4. The Awarders <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be <strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physic, <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Clinical<br />

Biochemistry, and one person appointed in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term by <strong>the</strong> General Board on <strong>the</strong><br />

recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine to serve for four years from 1 January<br />

following <strong>the</strong> appointment.<br />

5. The Studentship shall be tenable for one year in <strong>the</strong> first instance, and may be prolonged for a<br />

fur<strong>the</strong>r period or periods <strong>of</strong> not more than one year at a time, subject to <strong>the</strong> Student’s progress being<br />

deemed satisfactory by <strong>the</strong> Awarders.<br />

6. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, provided that <strong>the</strong> Awarders<br />

may award a Studentship <strong>of</strong> lesser value if <strong>the</strong>y think fit.<br />
