(ii) to provide a bed in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, <strong>Cambridge</strong>, or in some o<strong>the</strong>r Hospital in which<br />

beds are under <strong>the</strong> authority <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, for <strong>the</strong> study and investigation <strong>of</strong> some special<br />

disease;<br />

(iii) to purchase necessary materials or apparatus for research.<br />

The name <strong>of</strong> Ellen Farnell shall be attached to any bed, material, or apparatus supported by <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

MARTIN C. FAULKES BELL FUND<br />

Grace 1 <strong>of</strong> 28 January 2009<br />

1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £350,000 received from Dr Martin C. Faulkes shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Martin<br />

C. Faulkes Bell Fund.<br />

2. The Fund shall be administered by three Managers, who shall comprise:<br />

(a) The Vice-Chancellor (or a duly appointed deputy) who shall be chairman;<br />

(b) The <strong>University</strong> Bellringer;<br />

(c) one person nominated by <strong>the</strong> Parish <strong>of</strong> Great St Mary’s.<br />

3. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> capital and <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bell Fund shall be a payment to <strong>the</strong> Parish<br />

<strong>of</strong> Great St Mary’s Church to cover <strong>the</strong> costs <strong>of</strong> casting and installing a new ring <strong>of</strong> bells and <strong>the</strong><br />

rehanging <strong>of</strong> existing bells (toge<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> ‘Bells’) in Great St Mary’s, <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Church, to<br />

commemorate <strong>the</strong> 800th anniversary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, toge<strong>the</strong>r with such additional costs relating to<br />

or consequent upon such hanging or rehanging <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bells as are agreed between <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> and<br />

Dr Faulkes.<br />

4. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulation 3, <strong>the</strong> remaining capital and income<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to provide grants towards <strong>the</strong> maintenance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bells from time to time as<br />

<strong>the</strong> Managers shall determine.<br />

JOHN FAWCETT PRIZE<br />

1. The sums subscribed in memory <strong>of</strong> Frederick John Fawcett, M.A., MRCP, FRCPath, Regional<br />

Postgraduate Dean and Consultant Pathologist, Peterborough District Hospital, shall form a fund called<br />

<strong>the</strong> John Fawcett Fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used to provide a prize called <strong>the</strong> John Fawcett<br />

Prize.<br />

2. The Prize shall be awarded in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term each year by <strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physic<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> Medical Education to a student pursuing clinical study in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> who has<br />

taken Part I <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Final M.B. Examination and who is judged by <strong>the</strong>m to have given best evidence<br />

in his or her clinical work <strong>of</strong> qualities <strong>of</strong> personal understanding and <strong>the</strong> ability to communicate with<br />

patients and colleagues. In reaching <strong>the</strong>ir decision <strong>the</strong> Awarders shall take into account reports on <strong>the</strong><br />

candidates received from clinical teachers in <strong>Cambridge</strong> and elsewhere.<br />

3. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

4. If in any year <strong>the</strong> Prize is not awarded, <strong>the</strong> unexpended income shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

E. G. FEARNSIDES SCHOLARSHIP<br />

1. This Scholarship, founded and endowed by <strong>the</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fearnsides family in memory <strong>of</strong><br />

E. G. Fearnsides, M.A. (Trinity Hall), M.D., FRCP, who was drowned at Four Mile Bridge, Anglesey,<br />

on 26 June 1919, shall be called <strong>the</strong> E. G. Fearnsides Research Scholarship and shall be devoted to<br />

<strong>the</strong> encouragement <strong>of</strong> original clinical research on <strong>the</strong> organic diseases <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> nervous system.<br />

2. The administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be entrusted to <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine in<br />

consultation with <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine.<br />

3. The Faculty Board may delegate all or any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir functions concerning <strong>the</strong> Scholarship to a<br />

Committee not necessarily consisting wholly <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />

4. The Scholarship shall be called <strong>the</strong> E. G. Fearnsides Postgraduate Medical Scholarship, <strong>the</strong> holder<br />

<strong>of</strong> which shall undertake clinical research on <strong>the</strong> organic diseases <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> nervous system. The value <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Scholarship may be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers, within a range approved from time to time by<br />

<strong>the</strong> Council, after <strong>the</strong>y have taken account <strong>of</strong> any o<strong>the</strong>r financial resources that may be available to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Student.<br />
