Submission <strong>of</strong><br />
essay.<br />
Conditions.<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund such amount as may be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Boards <strong>of</strong> English and <strong>of</strong> History within<br />
a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />
5. In each year every candidate shall send <strong>the</strong> proposed subject <strong>of</strong> his or her essay to <strong>the</strong> Registrary<br />
so as to arrive not later than 14 February. The Registrary shall submit <strong>the</strong> subject to <strong>the</strong> Examiners<br />
and shall communicate its approval or rejection to <strong>the</strong> candidate. Essays shall be submitted to <strong>the</strong><br />
Registrary so as to arrive not later than 30 June, and <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be announced not<br />
later than 31 October.<br />
6. Each essay shall be clearly written, or typewritten, or printed, and shall be prefixed by a declaration<br />
<strong>of</strong> its length, which shall not exceed 30,000 words and shall not be less than 15,000 words. An essay<br />
or dissertation for which any o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>University</strong> Prize has been awarded shall be inadmissible.<br />
7. The successful candidate shall deposit a printed or typewritten copy <strong>of</strong> his or her essay in <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> Library.<br />

Le Bas Research Studentships<br />
1. The net income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Le Bas Fund, after provision has been made in accordance with <strong>the</strong><br />
regulations for <strong>the</strong> Le Bas Prize, shall be applied for <strong>the</strong> maintenance <strong>of</strong> one or more Le Bas Research<br />
Studentships for <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> literature.<br />
2. The Electors to <strong>the</strong> Studentships shall be <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Graduate Studies.<br />
3. The Studentship shall be open to any person who is or is about to become registered as a Graduate<br />
Student in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
4. Applications shall be submitted to <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Graduate Studies. The date by<br />
which <strong>the</strong>y must be received and <strong>the</strong> manner in which <strong>the</strong>y must be submitted shall be announced in<br />
each year by <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />
5. It shall be <strong>the</strong> duty <strong>of</strong> a Le Bas Research Student to undertake research with <strong>the</strong> object <strong>of</strong><br />
fur<strong>the</strong>ring <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> literature. During <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship a Student shall be subject, as<br />
far as <strong>the</strong>y are applicable, to <strong>the</strong> provisions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> general regulations for admission as a Graduate<br />
Student, and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> regulations for <strong>the</strong> Ph.D., M.Sc., and M.Litt. Degrees, and for <strong>the</strong> M.Phil. Degree.<br />
6. The tenure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall begin on 1 October following <strong>the</strong> Student’s election and shall<br />
continue for one year or two years or three years as <strong>the</strong> Electors shall determine at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
election. A Student shall be re-eligible; provided that <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> a Studentship shall not exceed three<br />
years in all and shall be conditional upon <strong>the</strong> Student remaining on <strong>the</strong> Register <strong>of</strong> Graduate Students.<br />
7. The annual stipend <strong>of</strong> a Student shall be such sum not exceeding <strong>the</strong> available income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Fund as may be determined by <strong>the</strong> Electors, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council,<br />
after <strong>the</strong>y have taken account <strong>of</strong> any o<strong>the</strong>r financial resources that may be available to <strong>the</strong> Student.<br />
8. The stipend shall be paid in such instalments as <strong>the</strong> Electors shall from time to time determine,<br />
provided that <strong>the</strong> Electors may withhold payment <strong>of</strong> any instalment if <strong>the</strong>y are not satisfied that <strong>the</strong><br />
Student is pursuing his or her research with sufficient diligence.<br />

Grace 1 <strong>of</strong> 29 April 2009<br />
1. The sums received from <strong>the</strong> Jerry Lee Foundation shall form a fund for <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong> postgraduate<br />
students or postdoctoral research staff in <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Criminology undertaking research in<br />
Experimental Criminology.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Criminology (who shall be<br />
Chairman), <strong>the</strong> Wolfson Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Criminology, and two persons with experience in Experimental<br />
Criminology appointed by <strong>the</strong> Committee <strong>of</strong> Management <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Criminology.<br />
3. The capital and income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers:<br />
(a) to provide <strong>the</strong> stipend, national insurance, and pension contributions <strong>of</strong> one or more Jerry Lee<br />
Fellows in Experimental Criminology who shall conduct research in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> Experimental<br />
Criminology. The annual stipend <strong>of</strong> a Fellow shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />
(b) to provide one or more Jerry Lee Scholarships in Experimental Criminology for persons who<br />
are, or are about to be, registered for <strong>the</strong> Ph.D. Degree in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> Experimental Criminology<br />
in <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Criminology.
