8. The stipend shall be paid quarterly in advance, provided that <strong>the</strong> Managers may withhold any<br />

instalment if <strong>the</strong>y are not satisfied that <strong>the</strong> Student is pursuing his or her research with sufficient<br />

diligence.<br />

9. Any unexpended income may be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund or accumulated for use<br />

as income in subsequent years, as <strong>the</strong> Managers may determine.<br />

TEAPE PRIZE<br />

1. The sum received by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> from <strong>the</strong> Trustees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Teape Fund shall form a fund called<br />

<strong>the</strong> Teape Prize Fund.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to provide a prize called <strong>the</strong> Teape Prize, in memory <strong>of</strong><br />

William Marshall Teape, M.A., B.D., <strong>of</strong> St John’s College, which shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Examiners<br />

for Parts IIA and IIB <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Theological and Religious Studies Tripos for distinction in <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong><br />

religions <strong>of</strong> India, as shown by performance ei<strong>the</strong>r in a dissertation or in a paper on <strong>the</strong> study or <strong>the</strong><br />

comparative study <strong>of</strong> religions in that examination.<br />

3. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity within a range<br />

approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

4. Any unexpended income in a financial year shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

RICHARD TENCH FUND<br />

1. The sum received under <strong>the</strong> Will <strong>of</strong> Richard T. Tench <strong>of</strong> Portland, Oregon, shall form a fund<br />

called <strong>the</strong> Richard Tench Fund.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used towards meeting <strong>the</strong> additional costs that <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

has incurred following <strong>the</strong> General Board’s agreement in 2001 to extend <strong>the</strong> hours during which <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> Library shall remain open to include Saturday afternoons.<br />

TENNANT FUND AND STUDENTSHIP<br />

1. The benefaction <strong>of</strong> an anonymous donor in memory <strong>of</strong> Mr W. A. Tennant, sometime chairman<br />

<strong>of</strong> C. Tennant, Sons and Company, Limited, London, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Tennant Fund.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied to provide <strong>the</strong> emoluments <strong>of</strong> a Studentship to be called<br />

<strong>the</strong> Tennant Studentship, <strong>the</strong> holder <strong>of</strong> which shall undertake advanced study or research in Norway.<br />

3. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scandinavian Studies Fund.<br />

4. The Managers, o<strong>the</strong>r than <strong>the</strong> ex <strong>of</strong>ficio Managers, shall be appointed to serve for three years<br />

from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />

5. No resolution <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers shall be valid unless approved by at least three Managers at a<br />

meeting to which all <strong>the</strong> Managers have been summoned.<br />

6. The Studentship shall be open to members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> who shall at <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> election<br />

have passed some final examination for <strong>the</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts, provided that at <strong>the</strong> same date<br />

not more than twenty-four terms shall have elapsed since <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir first term <strong>of</strong> residence. A<br />

Tennant Student, provided that he or she is o<strong>the</strong>rwise qualified, may be a candidate for <strong>the</strong> Studentship<br />

on a second occasion, but <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall never be held for more than two years in all. It shall<br />

not be tenable concurrently with <strong>the</strong> Scandinavian Studentship.<br />

7. An application for election must be submitted through <strong>the</strong> candidate’s Tutor to <strong>the</strong> Registrary so<br />

as to arrive not later than 1 June, and must be accompanied by a statement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> advanced<br />

study or research which <strong>the</strong> candidate proposes to undertake. The course proposed, which may be<br />

varied with <strong>the</strong> consent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers, shall involve residency in Norway for not less than three<br />

months.<br />

8. The Managers shall have authority to take any steps that <strong>the</strong>y think advisable to ascertain <strong>the</strong><br />

qualifications <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> candidates, provided that <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall not be awarded by competitive<br />

examination.<br />

9. The election <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Student shall be made annually in June, and shall be for a period <strong>of</strong> one year.<br />
