ten years’ standing from admission to a first degree, whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> this or ano<strong>the</strong>r university; and provided<br />

also that no previous winner <strong>of</strong> a Prize shall again be eligible as a candidate.<br />

2. The value <strong>of</strong> a Prize shall be such sum not exceeding <strong>the</strong> available income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund as may<br />

be determined from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity with <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

3. The examination shall consist <strong>of</strong> two papers on selected Greek and Latin ecclesiastical writings<br />

earlier than AD 461. The papers shall contain passages for translation and interpretation, toge<strong>the</strong>r with<br />

questions on <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong> early Christian literature and doctrine in connection with <strong>the</strong> writings<br />

selected and <strong>the</strong> period to which <strong>the</strong>y belong. Passages from o<strong>the</strong>r Greek and Latin ecclesiastical<br />

writings also may be set for translation and interpretation.<br />

4. The examination shall be held after <strong>the</strong> division and before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term, on<br />

a day <strong>of</strong> which notice shall be given by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Examinations. The day shall not be any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

days on which an examination for ano<strong>the</strong>r Divinity Prize or Scholarship is held.<br />

5. The names <strong>of</strong> candidates shall on or before 20 October next preceding <strong>the</strong> examination be sent<br />

by <strong>the</strong>ir Tutors to <strong>the</strong> Registrary, who shall forthwith communicate <strong>the</strong>m to <strong>the</strong> Examiners.<br />

6. The Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity shall select in each year <strong>the</strong> special ecclesiastical writings, and<br />

notice shall be given <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> writings so selected before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year<br />

preceding <strong>the</strong> examination.<br />

7. There shall be two Examiners appointed by <strong>the</strong> General Board on <strong>the</strong> nomination <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity. One shall be appointed in each year before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Easter Term to hold<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice for <strong>the</strong> two following academical years. Each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Examiners shall receive each year from <strong>the</strong><br />

Fund such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity within a range approved from<br />

time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council unless <strong>the</strong>re be no candidate for <strong>the</strong> Prizes. All <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r expenses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

examination shall likewise be paid out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

ERIC EVANS FUND<br />

1. The benefaction received by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> from <strong>the</strong> Eric Evans Memorial Trust, established in<br />

memory <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Eric Evans, B.A., <strong>of</strong> St Catharine’s College, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Eric<br />

Evans Fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used to provide assistance to members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>,<br />

by means <strong>of</strong> scholarships, studentships, or grants, or in o<strong>the</strong>r ways, in connection with <strong>the</strong>ir participation<br />

in sport or physical recreation.<br />

2. The Fund shall be administered by three Managers who shall be <strong>the</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> Physical Education<br />

and two o<strong>the</strong>r persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Sports Syndicate in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for three<br />

years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />

3. A Notice inviting applications for assistance from <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be published from time to time<br />

at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

ULICK RICHARDSON EVANS RESEARCH FUND<br />

1. The sum which, in accordance with <strong>the</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Will <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Ulick Richardson Evans,<br />

Sc.D., <strong>of</strong> King’s College, sometime Reader in <strong>the</strong> Science <strong>of</strong> Metallic Corrosion, was received by <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> from his Executors shall form a fund, to be called <strong>the</strong> Ulick Richardson Evans Research<br />

Fund, for <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> research in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> into metallic corrosion.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied as <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Materials Science<br />

and Metallurgy shall from time to time decide to fur<strong>the</strong>r teaching and research in <strong>the</strong> study and <strong>the</strong><br />

prevention <strong>of</strong> corrosion and oxidation <strong>of</strong> metals and in related fields, by one or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following<br />

means:<br />

(a) establishing and maintaining research appointments,<br />

(b) establishing a studentship,<br />

(c) maintaining Graduate Students or research workers in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Materials Science and<br />

Metallurgy,<br />

(d) purchasing apparatus and equipment,<br />

or by any o<strong>the</strong>r means consistent with <strong>the</strong> object <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
