(b) <strong>the</strong> preservation and maintenance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> collection, including <strong>the</strong> employment <strong>of</strong> curatorial staff<br />

for that purpose;<br />

(c) <strong>the</strong> purchase <strong>of</strong> objects to be added to <strong>the</strong> collection.<br />

RESEARCH STUDENTS AMENITIES FUND<br />

1. The Research Students Amenities Fund shall consist <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> capital representing a portion (allocated<br />

by <strong>the</strong> Council in 1963 in accordance with <strong>the</strong> wishes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> benefactor) <strong>of</strong> an anonymous benefaction<br />

made in 1962 to assist in implementing <strong>the</strong> recommendations concerning <strong>the</strong> establishment <strong>of</strong> a<br />

<strong>University</strong> Centre which were put forward by <strong>the</strong> Syndicate under <strong>the</strong> Chairmanship <strong>of</strong> Lord Bridges<br />

on <strong>the</strong> relationship between <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> and <strong>the</strong> Colleges.<br />

2. In accordance with <strong>the</strong> wishes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> benefactor, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be available for<br />

<strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> ‘providing amenities for research students which would not o<strong>the</strong>rwise be available’.<br />

Applications for grants from <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Council after consideration<br />

by <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

3. The Managers shall be:<br />

(a) <strong>the</strong> Vice-Chancellor (or a duly appointed deputy);<br />

(b) a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Regent House who has been appointed as Patron <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Graduate Union;<br />

(c) one member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Regent House appointed by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Council in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term<br />

to serve for three years from 1 January next following;<br />

(d) <strong>the</strong> President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Graduate Union;<br />

(e) <strong>the</strong> member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Council in class (d) elected by graduate students;<br />

(f) one registered Graduate Student elected by <strong>the</strong> Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Graduate Union in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas<br />

Term to serve for one year from 1 January next following.<br />

RICARDO PRIZE<br />

1. The Prize shall be called <strong>the</strong> Ricardo Prize in Thermodynamics. It shall be <strong>of</strong>fered for competition<br />

annually, and shall consist <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> net annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize Fund.<br />

2. Subject to Regulation 3 below, <strong>the</strong> award shall be made by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for <strong>the</strong> Engineering<br />

Tripos to <strong>the</strong> candidate who achieves <strong>the</strong> greatest distinction in Thermodynamics in Part IIB <strong>of</strong> that<br />

Tripos.<br />

3. It shall be open to <strong>the</strong> Examiners in any year to declare that no work <strong>of</strong> sufficient merit has been<br />

submitted.<br />

4. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be used to award an additional Prize or<br />

Prizes not exceeding such sum as may be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Engineering within a<br />

range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council. If <strong>the</strong> unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund<br />

at any time exceeds £50 <strong>the</strong> excess shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

5. It shall be open to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Engineering to<br />

alter <strong>the</strong>se regulations from time to time, subject to <strong>the</strong> conditions that <strong>the</strong> Prize shall always be called<br />

<strong>the</strong> Ricardo Prize and shall be devoted to <strong>the</strong> encouragement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> Thermodynamics.<br />

RICHARDS FUND<br />

1. The gift by Dr Audrey Richards shall form a fund which shall be called <strong>the</strong> Richards Fund, <strong>the</strong><br />

income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used to provide financial support for field research in Social Anthropology.<br />

2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Archaeology and Anthropology<br />

or her or his deputy and two <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers in that Department appointed in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term<br />

by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Human, Social, and Political Science to serve for a period <strong>of</strong> three years from<br />

1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />

3. Expenditure from <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be incurred at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers to award Studentships<br />

or grants to Graduate Students registered for a course <strong>of</strong> research in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Archaeology<br />

and Anthropology as candidates, or with a view to becoming candidates, for <strong>the</strong> Ph.D., M.Sc., or<br />

M.Litt. Degree.<br />

4. Applications for assistance from <strong>the</strong> Fund in any academical year shall be submitted to <strong>the</strong> Head<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department not later than <strong>the</strong> last day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term. The Managers shall have discretion<br />
