5. The tenure <strong>of</strong> a Harry Bunning Fellow, which shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers on <strong>the</strong><br />

occasion <strong>of</strong> each election, shall be for a period not exceeding three years at a time.<br />

6. The stipend <strong>of</strong> a Harry Bunning Fellow shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> General Board on <strong>the</strong><br />

recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

7. Any unexpended income may be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund or accumulated for use<br />

as income in future years, as <strong>the</strong> Managers may determine.<br />

BURNEY PRIZE AND STUDENTSHIP<br />

1. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Burney Fund, which is to be used for <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Religion (<strong>the</strong>se words being interpreted so that <strong>the</strong>y may include Christian Ethics and<br />

questions relating to <strong>the</strong> truth and evidence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Christian Religion), shall be used to provide in each<br />

year a Burney Prize and a Burney Studentship.<br />

2. The Adjudicators <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize and <strong>the</strong> Electors to <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be <strong>the</strong> Norris-Hulse<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Divinity and two members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Senate appointed by <strong>the</strong> General Board before <strong>the</strong><br />

division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term, one on <strong>the</strong> nomination <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity and <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>r on <strong>the</strong> nomination <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Philosophy, to serve until <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas<br />

Term in <strong>the</strong> calendar year next following.<br />

3. From any unexpended income which may have accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund <strong>the</strong> Electors may in any<br />

year award a second Prize, or a second Studentship, <strong>of</strong> such amount as <strong>the</strong>y may think fit, or may at<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir discretion make grants for <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Religion.<br />

4. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Burney Prize shall be such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Adjudicators<br />

within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

5. Each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> appointed Adjudicators shall receive from <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Burney Fund such sum<br />

as shall be determined jointly by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Boards <strong>of</strong> Divinity and Philosophy within a range<br />

approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council, except that no payment shall be made to <strong>the</strong> Adjudicators<br />

if no dissertations are referred to <strong>the</strong>m under Regulation 7.<br />

6. The Prize shall be awarded for a dissertation on a subject in <strong>the</strong> Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Religion submitted<br />

by a candidate for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Philosophy Tripos or by a candidate for Part IIB <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Theological<br />

and Religious Studies Tripos.<br />

7. At <strong>the</strong>ir final meeting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> two Boards <strong>of</strong> Examiners for <strong>the</strong> examinations<br />

specified in Regulation 6 shall identify <strong>the</strong> two best dissertations submitted by candidates for <strong>the</strong><br />

examination concerned on subjects that fall within <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Religion. Each<br />

dissertation identified by <strong>the</strong> Examiners shall be referred to <strong>the</strong> Adjudicators, who shall award <strong>the</strong> Prize<br />

for <strong>the</strong> dissertation which in <strong>the</strong>ir opinion is most meritorious.<br />

8. If <strong>the</strong> dissertations submitted by two candidates are deemed by <strong>the</strong> Adjudicators to be <strong>of</strong> equal<br />

merit, and if one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> two is a member <strong>of</strong> Christ’s College, <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be adjudged to that<br />

candidate.<br />

9. The Prize-winner shall ensure that a typewritten or printed copy <strong>of</strong> his or her dissertation is<br />

deposited in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library, and shall not receive <strong>the</strong> prize-money until this has been done.<br />

The Burney Studentship<br />

10. The annual value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Burney Studentship shall be such sum as <strong>the</strong> Electors shall determine<br />

in each case after taking account <strong>of</strong> any o<strong>the</strong>r emolument that <strong>the</strong> Student may be receiving for study<br />

or research, provided that it shall not exceed an amount approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

11. The Studentship shall be open to any member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, provided that on <strong>the</strong> day on<br />

which <strong>the</strong> election to <strong>the</strong> Studentship is made not more than seventeen terms have passed after his or<br />

her first term <strong>of</strong> residence. Candidates for <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall send <strong>the</strong>ir names to <strong>the</strong> Registrary not<br />

later than <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term, and <strong>the</strong> election to <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be made before <strong>the</strong><br />

end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term.<br />
