3. The Electors to <strong>the</strong> Studentships shall be <strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Divinity and two members <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Divinity appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to hold<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice for two years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />

4. The Electors shall give not less than three months’ notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir intention to proceed to an<br />

election.<br />

5. A Studentship may be held by any member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> provided that not less than five<br />

terms have passed after his or her first term <strong>of</strong> residence, and provided also that he or she<br />

(a) has obtained honours in at least one Honours Examination;<br />

(b) has declared in writing to <strong>the</strong> Electors that he or she (i) intends to take, or has taken, Holy<br />

Orders in <strong>the</strong> Church <strong>of</strong> England, and (ii) if elected, will reside in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> for at least one<br />

year from <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> taking up <strong>the</strong> Studentship and will ei<strong>the</strong>r (1) take at least one Part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Theological and Religious Studies Tripos, or <strong>the</strong> Examination in Theology and Religious Studies<br />

for <strong>the</strong> M.Phil. Degree, or <strong>the</strong> Advanced Diploma in Theology and Religious Studies, as <strong>the</strong><br />

Electors may require, or (2) engage in some form <strong>of</strong> research in <strong>the</strong>ology approved by <strong>the</strong><br />

Electors.<br />

6. Any eligible person may apply for a Studentship provided that three terms have passed after his<br />

or her first term <strong>of</strong> residence. Each application must be accompanied by<br />

(a) a record <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> candidate’s previous education;<br />

(b) <strong>the</strong> declaration required by Regulation 5(b);<br />

(c) a full account <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> candidate’s pecuniary circumstances including details <strong>of</strong> any assistance<br />

expected from o<strong>the</strong>r sources.<br />

7. The election shall be held not later than 30 September. If two or more candidates are <strong>of</strong> equal<br />

merit, <strong>the</strong> Electors shall give preference to persons who have been educated for not less than two years<br />

at Harrow School or at Winchester College.<br />

8. A Studentship shall be tenable for twelve months from 1 October following or next but one<br />

following <strong>the</strong> election. A Student shall be eligible for re-election, provided that no one shall hold <strong>the</strong><br />

Studentship for more than four years in total.<br />

9. The value <strong>of</strong> a Studentship shall be such sum as shall be determined in each particular case by<br />

<strong>the</strong> Electors, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council. In determining <strong>the</strong> value <strong>of</strong> a<br />

Studentship <strong>the</strong> Electors shall take into account <strong>the</strong> pecuniary circumstances <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> holder.<br />

10. The emolument <strong>of</strong> a Studentship shall be paid in half-yearly instalments in advance; provided<br />

that <strong>the</strong> Electors may withhold <strong>the</strong> whole or part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> second instalment if <strong>the</strong>y are not satisfied that<br />

<strong>the</strong> Student is diligently pursuing his or her studies.<br />

11. These regulations, o<strong>the</strong>r than Regulations 1 and 2 and this regulation, may be changed by Grace<br />

subject to <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lord Archbishop <strong>of</strong> Canterbury.<br />

DONALD WORT FUND I<br />

1. The sum bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> late Donald Arthur Wort, M.A., <strong>of</strong> Hughes Hall<br />

and Corpus Christi College, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Donald Wort Fund, which shall be used for<br />

<strong>the</strong> advancement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> music in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> and for such o<strong>the</strong>r purposes connected with<br />

music in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> as <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Music shall from time to time decide.<br />

2. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> three Donald Wort Prizes,<br />

as follows:<br />

(a) one Prize shall be awarded to <strong>the</strong> candidate who is adjudged by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part IA <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Music Tripos to have shown <strong>the</strong> greatest pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in that examination;<br />

(b) one Prize shall be awarded to <strong>the</strong> candidate who is adjudged by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part IB <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Music Tripos to have shown <strong>the</strong> greatest pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in that examination;<br />

(c) one Prize shall be awarded to <strong>the</strong> candidate who is adjudged by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Music Tripos to have shown <strong>the</strong> greatest pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in <strong>the</strong> Test <strong>of</strong> Performance in that<br />

examination.<br />

3. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prizes shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Music within a range<br />

approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

4. After provision has been made for Donald Wort Prizes in accordance with Regulation 2, any<br />

unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board<br />

<strong>of</strong> Music:<br />

(a) to enable distinguished scholars to visit <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Music from time to time in order to give<br />

lectures and engage in o<strong>the</strong>r work <strong>of</strong> benefit to <strong>the</strong> Faculty;
