3. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund may be used, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers, to promote medicolegal<br />

studies in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by providing lectures on medico-legal subjects (to be known as Baron<br />

de Lancey Lectures), or to purchase books and journals for <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> on such subjects.<br />

4. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be available for use by <strong>the</strong> Managers for<br />

<strong>the</strong> purposes specified in Regulation 3.<br />

GEORGE AND MARIE VERGOTTIS FUND<br />

1. The sums bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Mrs Marie Vergottis shall form a fund to be known<br />

as <strong>the</strong> George and Marie Vergottis Fund.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fund shall be applied to provide one or more scholarships to be called George<br />

and Marie Vergottis Scholarships for persons <strong>of</strong> Greek citizenship in order that <strong>the</strong>y may follow courses<br />

leading to a degree or o<strong>the</strong>r qualification <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

3. A Scholar who is not already a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> shall become such by being matriculated<br />

before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> term next after her or his election to <strong>the</strong> Scholarship, provided that for good<br />

cause <strong>the</strong> Managers may allow a Scholar to defer matriculation until a later date.<br />

4. The Fund shall be administered by four Managers who shall be:<br />

(a) <strong>the</strong> Vice-Chancellor or a duly appointed deputy, as Chairman;<br />

(b) three persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

Managers in class (b) shall serve for three years from 1 October following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />

5. The Managers shall give at least six months’ notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir intention to award a Scholarship.<br />

6. A Scholarship shall be tenable for one, two, three, or four years, as <strong>the</strong> Managers shall in each<br />

case determine; a Scholarship may, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers, be extended by one or two or<br />

three years, provided that <strong>the</strong> total tenure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholarship shall not exceed four years.<br />

7. The value <strong>of</strong> each Scholarship shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers, within a range approved<br />

from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council, after taking account <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholar’s financial circumstances.<br />

8. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be ei<strong>the</strong>r accumulated for use as income<br />

in subsequent years, or used at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers to assist a Scholar to meet travelling<br />

expenses or any o<strong>the</strong>r special expenses in connection with his or her course <strong>of</strong> study or research, as<br />

<strong>the</strong> Managers may determine.<br />

3VERULAM BUILDINGS PRIZES<br />

1. The sum made available annually by 3 Verulam Buildings shall be used to provide two prizes<br />

called 3 Verulam Buildings Prizes.<br />

2. The Prizes shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Law Tripos and by <strong>the</strong> Examiners<br />

for <strong>the</strong> LL.M., as follows:<br />

(a) one Prize shall be awarded to <strong>the</strong> candidate who has shown <strong>the</strong> greatest distinction in <strong>the</strong> subject<br />

Equity;<br />

(b) one Prize shall be awarded to <strong>the</strong> candidate who has shown <strong>the</strong> greatest distinction in <strong>the</strong> subject<br />

International Commercial Litigation.<br />

3. The value <strong>of</strong> each Prize shall be one-half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sum made available in each year by 3 Verulam<br />

Buildings.<br />

VICE-CHANCELLOR’S ENDOWMENT FUND<br />

Purpose.<br />

Grace 4 <strong>of</strong> 23 April 2008<br />

1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £5m received from an anonymous donor for <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in general<br />

shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Vice-Chancellor’s Endowment Fund. The Fund may include o<strong>the</strong>r sums<br />

received from o<strong>the</strong>r bodies or persons for <strong>the</strong> same purpose.<br />

2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Vice-Chancellor, <strong>the</strong> Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Planning<br />

and Resources, a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council in class (e) appointed by <strong>the</strong> Council, and <strong>the</strong> Registrary.<br />

3. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be available for <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in fulfilment <strong>of</strong> its<br />

mission to contribute to society through <strong>the</strong> pursuit <strong>of</strong> education, learning, and research at <strong>the</strong> highest<br />

international levels <strong>of</strong> excellence.
