บ้านเรือนถิ่นไทยในช่วงเจ็ดทศวรรษ 2489-2559

ยังมีการจัดพื้นที่ในเชิงประเพณี เนื่องจากเป็นพระราชวัง
ที่ยังสามารถประกอบพระราชพิธีตามขนบธรรมเนียม
ดั้งเดิมได้คือ เขตพระราชวังชั้นนอกสำหรับการประกอบ
พระราชกรณียกิจเกี่ยวกับราชการต่างๆ ชั้นกลางเป็นที่
ประทับของพระมหากษัตริย์ ชั้นในเป็นที่ประทับและที่พัก
ของฝ่ายใน อย่างไรก็ดีวังสวนสุนันทาซึ่งโปรดเกล้าฯ
ให้สร้างขึ้นใน พ.ศ. 2451 9 ในบริเวณพื้นที่ต่อจากเขต
พระราชฐานชั้นในของพระราชวังสวนดุสิตไปทางด้าน
ทิศตะวันตกนั้นเป็นวังที่มีพื ้นที่ใหญ่ประมาณ 70 %
ของพระราชวังสวนดุสิต และสร้างขึ้นเพื่อเป็นสวนป่า
ทั้งยังเป็นที่ประทับส่วนพระองค์และข้าราชสำนักฝ่ายใน
ในความหมายของการมีพื้นที่ส่วนพระองค์ที่ปลอดจาก
การถูกรบกวนโดยบุคคลภายนอกในแบบธรรมเนียม
ของชาวตะวันตก ขนาดของพื้นที่ซึ่งจัดให้เป็นบริเวณ
สวนนั้นมีขนาดประมาณ 80 % ของเนื้อที ่ทั้งหมด
นับว่าเป็นวังที่มีลักษณะเป็นสวนป่าขนาดใหญ่ที่แท้จริง
แห่งแรกของกรุงเทพฯ และน่าจะเป็นแนวพระราชดำริ
ที่เกิดขึ้นจากความผูกพันในพระราชหฤทัยในการ
ทำสวนในบริเวณพระราชวังตามที่ได้ทรงพบเห็นมาใน
ยุโรป ดังความในพระราชหัตถเลขาลงวันที่ 2 สิงหาคม

art. The structure of the building was also very modern
because it combined the use of reinforced concrete with
load-bearing walls while the outer roof structure used the
iron truss system to envelope the inner structure built of
reinforced concrete.
On parks and gardens
Two palaces built towards the end of Rama V’s reign
have the word “Suan” (garden or park) incorporated into
their names which are Suan Dusit Palace 8 and Suan
Sunanda Palace. The former was built in 1898 after the
king had returned from his first voyage to Europe in the
previous year. From the experience of his royal visit
abroad, Rama V had the opinion that the Grand Palace
was seemingly too crowded, unsanitary, and the cause of
the royal members’ poor health that often led to illnesses.
He therefore wished to build a residence that has healthier
and more pleasant environment. This meant that instead of
just erecting mansions and other buildings, there need to
be ponds, plants and trees that are beautifully landscaped

ยมราช (ปั้น สุขุม) ความตอนหนึ่งมีดังนี้
“... คือพระที่นั่งเดี๋ยวนี้ไม่มีที่สงัดซึ่งจะเที่ยว
เล่นแต่ลำพังได้ ลงกระไดมาก็เป็นข้างหน้า ออก
จากกำแพงไปก็ฝรั่งมาถึง เราควรจะมีสวนข้าง
ในซึ่งเที่ยวได้แต่ลำพัง ยิ่งมาเห็นพวกเจ้าแผ่น
ดินฝรั่งถือลูกประแจสวนหลายคนเข้ายิ่งคิดถึง
สวนที่นึกไว้ว่าจะทำมากขึ้น”
วังเจ้านาย พระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว
ทรงเริ่มจัดระเบียบที่พักอาศัยของสมาชิกในพระราชวงศ์
เช่น พระเจ้าน้องยาเธอพระราชโอรสในพระบาทสมเด็จ
พระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว เจ้านายฝ่ายใน ตลอดจน
พระราชโอรสตั้งแต่ต้นรัชกาลราว พ.ศ. 2418 เป็นต้นมา
ต่อมาในช่วงกลางรัชกาลราว พ.ศ. 2430 เป็นต้นมาโปรด
ให้มีการสร้างวังขึ้นเป็นจำนวนมาก ผู้ที่ออกแบบวังเหล่านี้
คือ สถาปนิกชาวยุโรปที่เข้ามารับราชการในกรุงเทพฯ
วังเหล่านี้จึงมีความสง่างามสมฐานะผู้เป็นเจ้าของวัง
ในที่นี้จะขอยกตัวอย่างแต่พอเป็นสังเขป
on the palatial compound as well. The planning of Suan
Dusit Palace complied with this but nevertheless retained
the traditional zoning system because it still had to be
able to allow traditional royal ceremonies to take place.
The outer compound was the zone that served formal and
official functions, the main compound or the intermediate
zone was the king’s residential quarters, and the inner
compound was the zone that provided accommodations
for the ladies of the court and other attendants.
As for Suan Sunanda Palace, which the king had
ordered built in 1908 9 on the adjacent land west of Suan
Dusit’s inner compound, the palatial grounds covered
an area equivalent to approximately seventy percent of
the land occupied by Suan Dusit Palace. Following the
western concept, Suan Sunanda was built with a forest
park to provide the king his personal privacy and seclusion
without interference from the outside, as well as for the
royal members and close aides and attendants to enjoy.
The green areas of this palace totaled approximately
eighty percent of the entire palace grounds, making it the
