บ้านเรือนถิ่นไทยในช่วงเจ็ดทศวรรษ 2489-2559

เรื่องพวกนี้ไม่มีอะไรประหลาด คือสิ่งนี้ประหลาดสำหรับ
ฝรั่งแต่ไม่ประหลาดสำหรับคนอีกกลุ่มหนึ่ง ผมก็เลยไม่
แน่ใจและคิดว่า concepts เหล่านี้มีประโยชน์ก็จริงแต่ถ้า
วางมันกลับมาใน space ที่อาจจะเป็นจริง เราก็จะเห็น
ของอีกแบบหนึ่งซึ่งน่าจะอยู่ร่วมกันในบางลักษณะได้
อาจารย์กิจโชติ: ในทางสถาปัตยกรรมมักกำหนดรูป
แบบทางสถาปัตยกรรมเป็น modern เป็น postmodern
เป็น deconstruction หรือ after อย่างในปัจจุบันก็ยัง
คงมีการถกเถียงกันอยู่ว่าเป็นยุคไหนกันแน่ หรือมันคือ
ความหมายอะไรกันแน่ครับ
อาจารย์ชัยวัฒน์: ผมกลับเข้าใจว่าแนวทางการใช้
สิ่งเหล่านี้มาจากวิชาสถาปัตยกรรมตั้งแต่ต้น คือวิชา
ต่างๆ ยืมมา สำหรับสถาปนิกส่วนใหญ่เรื่องเหล่านี้น่าจะ
ชัดเพราะเป็นเรื่องที่สัมพันธ์กับความจำเป็น อย่างเช่น
ถ้าคุณอยู่ในเขตร้อนการออกแบบบ้านก็ต้องสัมพันธ์กับ
ความเป็นจริงของเขตร้อน ถ้าเป็นอย่างอื่นคงลำบาก จน
กระทั่งเทคโนโลยีพัฒนาไปมีแอร์ คุณก็สร้างบ้านอีกแบบ
หนึ่ง คือสามารถแบ่งยุคสถาปัตยกรรมได้ เพราะการแบ่ง
ยุคเหล่านั้นตอบสนองต่อสิ่งแวดล้อมและวิธีที่มนุษย์อยู่
กับสิ่งแวดล้อมซึ่งเปลี่ยนไปตามเงื่อนไขของข้อเท็จจริง
วิธีที ่มนุษย์อยู่กับสิ่งแวดล้อมจะขอเรียกง่ายๆ ว่า
เทคโนโลยี เพราะฉะนั้นเมื่อเอาของสองอย่างมาอยู่ด้วยกัน
การออกแบบก็แปรผันตามของพวกนี้
อาจารย์กิจโชติ: แต่มันมักจะถูกกำหนดโดยรูปแบบ
แล้วจึงนำไปโยงเข้ากับคำศัพท์ที่เป็นยุคต่างๆ เหล่านี้
แล้วทุกคนมักจะพูดว่าเป็นการนำเอามาจากมานุษยวิทยา
บ้าง หรือไม่ก็สังคมวิทยาบ้าง หรือไม่ก็เป็นรัฐศาสตร์ครับ
มันเหมือนกับว่าในเชิงสถาปัตยกรรม สมมุติว่าออกแบบ
บ้านหลังหนึ่งขึ้นมา ถ้ามันมีรูปแบบที่ทำการลดทอนราย
ละเอียดก็จะถูกกำหนดว่าเป็นยุคโมเดิร์น ถ้ามียุคที่เป็น
เหมือนเอารูปแบบในอดีตมาตีความใช้ใหม่ก็จะถูกบอก
ว่าเป็น postmodern เพราะว่ามันเป็นยุคที่คนเริ่มเบื่อ
โมเดิร์นที่ต่างก็ต้องทำตามรูปแบบ จึงทำให้มันเหมือนกัน
เกือบทั้งโลก เริ่มเรียกร้องเรียกหาอัตลักษณ์ส่วนเฉพาะของ
ความเป็นถิ่นที่ขึ้นมา ดังนั้นเมื่อมีรูปแบบสถาปัตยกรรม
ที่เพิ่มขึ้นมาจากความเรียบง่ายของโมเดิร์นก็จะถูกเรียก
ว่า postmodern มาถึง deconstruction มันก็จะเป็นยุคที่
เมื่อ postmodern ดำเนินมาถึงจุดหนึ่งแล้วทุกคนเริ่มคิด
เริ่มมีคำถามต่อรูปแบบอีกครั้งว่าแล้วรูปแบบของมันจะ

concepts were conceived. I agree that these concepts
have their own merits. But in some particular space
or setting, some seemingly opposite things can exist
together in a certain manner.
Quijxote: In architecture, we also categorize
it as modern, postmodern, deconstruction, and
afterdeconstruction. People are still debating as to
which category today architecture should be and
what it means.
Chaiwat: On the contrary, I think these concepts
originate from architecture to begin with. It should
be very obvious to architects because it’s related to
existing conditions. If you live in a tropical country,
your house has to be designed in consistent with the
realities of the tropics. It would not work otherwise. But
since technology evolved, air-conditioner was invented,
the house also changed. I think architecture can be
categorized based on time. Because architectural
characteristics are responsive to both the physical
and temporal environment. And how men live with the
environment is changeable in relation to conditions of
reality. It is “technology” that respond to the challenges
of how people live in different environments. When these
two things are put together, it has an effect on design.
Quijxote: But it’s usually defined by its look first,
then categorized with those borrowed terms. For
example, we design a house. If it looks minimal, it’s
categorized as modern. If it looks like a reinterpretation
of something in the past, it’s labelled as premodern?.
Because people started to be fed up with modern
designs that follow the same pattern everywhere and
