บ้านเรือนถิ่นไทยในช่วงเจ็ดทศวรรษ 2489-2559

คงอยู่ต่อไปถึงไหน เพราะฉะนั้นในสถาปัตยกรรมมันจึง
มีการแบ่งยุคตามรูปแบบเช่นนี้ แล้วมันก็ถูกโยงกลับไป
บางส่วนในรูปแบบบ้านที่เคยถูกกำหนดกันมาในแง่มุม
ของสถาปัตยกรรมครับ
70 ปีของในหลวง ร.9 มันชัดมากว่า ยุคเริ่มต้นมัน
เป็นช่วงเวลาที่สัมพันธ์กับยุคโมเดิร์นของฝรั่ง ยุคกลางๆ
ก็จะเป็นยุค postmodern โดยเฉพาะตอนท้ายๆ รัชกาล
ก็จะเป็นยุค deconstruction ในส่วนสถาปัตยกรรมก็จะมี
องค์ประกอบที่เหมือนปะติดปะต่อการทำงานตีความใหม่
ในตัวของมันเองครับ ที่นี้มันเลยดูว่า คำศัพท์ในการ
กำหนดยุคกำหนดรูปแบบดังที่อาจารย์ให้ความเห็นเอาไว้ว่า
ในเชิงสถาปัตยกรรมมันชัด แต่ทางสถาปัตยกรรมเองก็
จะบอกว่าเป็นการนำมาหรืออ้างอิงมาจากศาสตร์อื่นครับ

แต่คนที่จะต้องคิดเกี่ยวกับเรื่องนี้มากหน่อยคือสาขาทาง
สถาปัตยกรรม เหตุผลก็คือว่า สมมุติว่าเราต้องออกแบบ
บ้าน คุณจะออกแบบอย่างไร คุณต้องถามว่าบ้านหลังนี้
อยู่ที่ไหน คือ place ของบ้านสำคัญ พอ place ของบ้าน
สำคัญ environment ของบ้านก็สำคัญ ถ้า environment
กับ place ของบ้านสำคัญก็ต้องถามต่อไปว่า เจ้าของ
บ้านต้องการอะไรด้วย resources มีแค่ไหนคือมันมีเหตุ
ปัจจัย แต่ถึงให้ resources มากขนาดไหน สมมุติว่า
resources มีมากในระดับหนึ่งซึ่งคุณสามารถออกแบบ
บ้านให้มัน transcend geography ของมันได้หรือไม่
คำตอบคือได้แต่คงต้องแพงมาก สถาปัตยกรรมแบบนั้น
ก็เลยไม่ใช่ตัวแทนของยุคสมัย ไม่ใช่ตัวแทนของชีวิตและ
ความเป็นจริงไง มีตัวอย่างที่ดีอย่างในซาอุดิอาระเบียมี
ความสามารถที่จะทำให้อากาศในพื้นที่เย็นโดยใช้ก้อน
น้ำแข็งทำให้อุณหภูมิในนั้นมันลดลง ถามว่าทำแบบนี้
ทำได้หรือไม่ ทำได้นะแต่ราคาสูง ที่นี้พอราคาสูงเลย
มีโจทย์อื่นๆ ที่ตามมาอีกเยอะเลย แต่ผมว่าอันนี้ชี้ว่ายุค
สมัยหนึ่งๆ ทำอะไรให้เป็นไปได้บ้าง แต่มันไม่ใช่ตัวแทน
ของยุคสมัย เพราะถ้าจะให้เป็นตัวแทนภาพสะท้อนสังคม
นั้นๆ คงต้องแปรผันไปตามสภาพแวดล้อม ถ้าอยู่ในดิน
แดนที่มีแต่ฝนตก หลังคาก็ควรจะเป็นแบบหนึ่ง แต่จะไม่
เป็นอย่างนั้นได้หรือไม่ ก็สามารถทำได้เหมือนกันแต่ต้อง
มีเงื่อนไขอื่นมาประกอบ ยิ่งเวลาต่อไป resource ต่างๆ
จำกัด ผมคิดว่ามันจะจำกัดทางเลือกมากขึ้น เช่น ราคา
ที่ดินสูง space จำกัด คุณคอยดูต่อไปผมคิดว่าโอกาสที่
อาคารสาธารณะจะมีห้องสำหรับหญิงและชายแยกกันจะ
มีลดลง ผมไม่คิดว่ามันเป็นแบบนี้เพราะ postmodern
demanded to see local individuality. Everything that’s
embellished beyond the simplicity of modernism was
then called postmodern. After a while, people started
to question how long the postmodern design can go
on. Therefore, deconstruction movement happened.
This is why and how architecture is categorized.
It’s quite obvious that the beginning of King Rama
IX’s 70 years reign is the same period as modern age
in the West. The midlife phase is postmodern. And
his later years coincided with deconstruction period.
In architecture, we interpret these terms in our own
way. Although you said that it’s an obvious thing for
architects, but we still think of them as borrowed terms.
Chaiwat: No matter where they’re from, I think
the field that needs to pay a lot of attention to it is
architecture. When designing a house, an important
question that needs to be asked is where is the
house? Place of the house is important. Environment
of the house is also important. Then the next
questions are what does the home owner want? And
what are the resources available? If there’s a bucket
load of resource, can you design a house that transcends
geography? I think you can but it would be
extremely expensive. And that kind of architecture is
not representative of its time, life, or reality. It is said
that in Saudi Arabia, they could make the air cooler
by using ice berg from the North. It is something
doable but will certainly be extremely expensive.
But it shows what can be done during a certain time
though it doesn’t represent the norm of the time. To
be representative of the time, it has to be consistent
with environment all around. If you live in a country
that rains all the time, the roof has to be a certain
way. But is it a must? Not necessarily if you have
