บ้านเรือนถิ่นไทยในช่วงเจ็ดทศวรรษ 2489-2559

ทรงดนตรีก็เป็นอย่างหนึ่ง ตอนที่ทรงพระราชอำนาจ
สูงสุดก็เป็นอย่างหนึ่ง ตอนที่พระองค์ท่านประชวรก็เป็น
อย่างหนึ่ง เพราะฉะนั้นคำกล่าวนี้วางอยู่บนห้วงเวลา
ที่น่าสนใจมาก เพราะช่วยให้เห็นความเปลี่ยนแปลง
ได้อย่างแสนอัศจรรย์ ถ้าพูดถึงบ้าน บางบ้านก็ยอม
เปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามความเปลี่ยนแปลงนี้ บางบ้านก็
ยืนไม่เปลี่ยน ยืนไม่เปลี่ยนเพราะอะไร? ยืนไม่เปลี่ยน
ได้อย่างไร? ผมคิดว่าโจทย์แบบนี้น่าสนใจมากทีเดียว
ถ้าจะพูดจากบ้านตัวเองที่ถนนเดโช สีลม บ้านผมก็อายุ
เกิน 70 ปี เพราะฉะนั้นคำถามที่น่าสนใจคือ เราจะยืน
อยู่ได้อีกนานเท่าใดภายใต้ development plan แบบนี้
ภายใต้การรุกรานจากรัฐโดย development plan หรือ
การรุกรานจากทุนด้วยตึกสูงตึกสมัยใหม่ เราจะอยู่กับ
สิ่งเหล่านี้ได้อย่างไร
อาจารย์กิจโชติ: มันมีสิ่งที่ใกล้เคียงกันอีกสิ่งหนึ่ง
ครับอาจารย์ซึ่งก็คือ ใน 70 ปีที่อาจารย์ได้อธิบายไว้ มัน
ก็มีเวลา 70 ปีของสังคมโลกที่มันเคลื่อนไปพร้อมๆ กัน
โดยเฉพาะช่วง 70 ปีตั้งแต่ในหลวงทรงขึ้นครองราชย์
จนกระทั่งเสด็จสวรรคต มันอยู่ในยุคที่สำคัญอีกยุคหนึ่ง
ที่เรียกกันว่า modernism ความเปลี่ยนแปลงเหล่านี้
จริงๆ แล้ว ในเชิงรัฐศาสตร์ สังคมศาสตร์ เศรษฐศาสตร์
นิติศาสตร์ หรือสถาปัตยกรรมแล้ว เราใช้คำเหล่านี้เหมือน
กันบนนัยยะที่อาจแตกต่างกันออกไปบ้างในแต่ละศาสตร์
หรือในแต่ละสาขา โดยเฉพาะคำว่า modernism, post
modernism หรือแม้แต่หลัง After modernism ที่เป็น
Deconstructionism อยากฟังความเห็นของอาจารย์ครับ
เพราะว่าจริงๆ แล้วในเชิงสถาปัตยกรรมนั้นมันเป็นเชิง
เหมือนท้ายน้ำของคำเหล่านี้ ซึ่งเรามักจะเรียนรู้จาก
นักเศรษฐศาสตร์ นักสังคมศาสตร์ นักมานุษยวิทยา
นักรัฐศาสตร์ หลักๆ เลยคนที่บัญญัติคำเหล่านี้ในเนื้อหา
ทางสถาปัตยกรรมส่วนใหญ่ก็จะหยิบยืมคำมาจากศาสตร์
ต่างๆ เหล่านี้ครับ อยากให้อาจารย์ช่วยให้ความเห็นใน
ความเปลี่ยนแปลง 70 ปีที่ผ่านมาที่มันเกี่ยวโยงกับคำ
4 คำนี้คือ modern, postmodern, After modern และ
Deconstruction ครับ
อาจารย์ชัยวัฒน์: คือผมเข้าใจแบบนี้นะครับ เอา
คำว่า modern ก่อน คำอื่นๆ เป็นคำที่พัฒนาต่อมา
จากคำนี้ คำว่า modern ก็เป็นคำโบราณ เพราะใน
ยุคเดิมสิ่งที่เขาทำก็คือ เขาแบ่งเป็น ancient กับ
modern ยุคโบราณกับยุคใหม่ สิ่งที่เรียกว่าใหม่คืออะไร
the person can be 2 years old or 63 years old. They
could be born during the beginning, the middle, or the
end of the reign. Everyone has different interactions
with the reign. When the King was a young student,
when he returned to his homeland, when he was
playing music to university students at Thammasat
or Chulalongkorn, when he reigned supreme or when
he was ill, people reacted to those times differently.
It is so interesting that these changes are unfolded in
the most magical way. Some houses adapted to the
change. Some did not. Why and how did they remain
unchanged? I think it’s such an interesting question.
My own house on Decho road in Silom area is over
70 years old. How long can we keep it unchanged in
the context of economic changes, notwithstanding
intrusions from government’s regulations and
capitalists’s money that come in the forms of big tall
buildings almost everywhere in the city. How can we
live together with that?
Quijxote: During the King Rama IX’s 70 years
reign, the world was also evolving. One of the important
movements is Modernism, which is widely recognized
though somewhat used differently in many fields of
studies like political theory, social studies, economics,
and law, from which architecture borrows these
philosophical terms. From modernism, postmodernism,
after -postmodernism, and deconstructionism, how
do you think the changes in the past 70 years are
related to these 4 ideas?
Chaiwat: From my understanding, every term is
the offspring of the word “modern”, which is an old
word. In the old days, things were categorized as
“ancient” and “modern”. Where did the modern age
start is one of the most important questions in human
