Abstract
Archaeological excavations in 2010 at Ruginoasa –
Dealul Drăghici have been focus on block E1, square g-j 6-10
and partially block E2, on squares g-j 1.
Pit house B7. On pit house B7 we investigated the oven
discovered in level 4, at –1.50 m (some of its phases had been
Cronica cercetărilor arheologice din România – campania 2010
119
investigated earlier). The oven has several phases, and at –2.30
m the hearth of the mentioned complex was discovered.
B7, level 1 (-2.30 m). Some inner arrangements have
been identified in this level: a hearth in the southeast corner, the
southern part was excavated (Lazarovici C.-M et alii 2006).
Some separation walls made of stones some of them of large
size characterize different levels of the pit house. A posthole
was discovered in the eastern part. Levels with seasonal
fireplaces have been discovered too at -2.10 and -2 m. On the
bottom, a broken pithoi was discovered together with other
fragments from different other pots, used for the floor of the pit
house. This stratum was covered with a stone pavement similar
with B8.
B7, level 2 (-1.75 m) and level 3 (-1.65 m). In
several parts of the pit house temporary fireplaces (mainly
charcoal and ashes) have been discovered.
B7, level 5 (-1.40 -1.65 m). Level 5 with the oven
has several phases of use and reconstructions. Two such
phases of use are illustrated in fig. 7 and 8. One of the previous
fireplaces consist in a stone slab and the floor around was made
by yellow clay on top of it the oven was built. The structure of
the oven consists in yellow sand clay strata with stones,
technique used in other several cases, such the ovens in B6.
Pit house B8, was quite large, about 3 m long with
different width, related with the bordering big stones. The base
of the dividing wall made of stones. It has two living stages, in
the last one being smaller comparative with B7. But considering
the megalithic stone that separate B8 and B7, they have similar
size in the oldest phase.
Pit house B9 was investigated during 2005. In 2010,
on the division wall with B8 two big legs of a clay altar, broken
earlier, have been discovered. We do not know for sure if they
have been intentionally thrown away or put for levelling the
bottom of Ditch 1b and of the pit house floor.
The defensive ditches, especially the last defensive
ditch have been destroy by Ruginoasa' farmers when they take
out stones for building. Ditch 1b, the newest, build by massive
stones, was on top of the old one ditch 1a, as we have noticed
when investigate pit house B1. The bottom of ditch 1b was
several times renewed with stones. There are three defensive
ditches, 1-3, evident when the new topographic sketch was
made, but also possible to see in older aerial photos or with the
occasion of magnetic prospecting. Some pits related to the
palisades 1 and 2 have been identified on the western side of
the profile.
Magnetic prospecting and new topographic plan.
Correlations. New phonograms obtained through magnetic
prospecting show quite a clear picture. Ditch 2 is easy to be
observed, marked by a lighter band related with plugging. Ditch
1 was partially investigated in our excavations. Ditch 3 is
possible to be seen in an older picture, fig. 26 and was marked
during recent magnetic prospecting. German magnetic
prospecting has identified the ditches, their routes, and some
double. Several anomalies can be observed in the images.
Some of them can be related with prehistoric complexes or
disturbances related to the Second World War. Romanian
magnetic prospecting covers the area non-investigated by the
German colleagues. Now we can reconstruct the routes of
ditches and palisades. Some areas need more investigation in
the future.
