Educational Needs Of Families In Turkey
developing it by means of providing families with training in the matter of budget
management.
It is seen that there are families experiencing rather serious economic problems.
Income deficiency has reached such high levels in these families that they cannot meet
even their vital needs. These families cannot meet even their basic needs for food and
dress. In this sense, low-income families can be trained about institution to which these
families can apply, who can help them, what kind of efforts they can make for making
contribution to family economy so as to overcome their economic problems. This situation
indicates that training to be given to families in economic matters must be made
different according to income levels of the families.
An important finding coming out at the end of the analysis of the interviews is that
incapability of families to establish income - expense balance is not a case just resulting
from deficiency of the income. Families having enough income may also not establish
income – expense balance. It can be said that this situation results from tendency of
people to spend always more than their incomes. Those having enough incomes also
mention that they cannot save up. In this sense, awareness of the families can be raised
in the matter of economy, and in this way they can be enabled to use family incomes in
a more balanced way. As a result, family can even save up and make investments.
Particularly female participants, who are housewives, mentioned that they try to do
many things in the house so as to support family economy. In addition, it is seen that
women particularly, who are housewives find occupations which will make contribution
to family economy. For instance, while a housewife makes contribution to her family
through needlework and handiworks another housewife contributes to family economy
by participating in exhibitions with pictures she draws and selling these pictures after
going to drawing course thinking that she is skilful in this field. In this sense, it can be
said that educating families about skills, which will bring income to families, will be
beneficial in terms of family economy.
Educational topics mostly suggested by family members participating in the interviews
are use of credit card, conscious shopping, management of the family budget and
energy saving.
