Educational Needs Of Families In Turkey<br />

relations with disabled people and individuals in need of nursing, sexual education,<br />

supporting studies of the child at home.<br />

Results of chi-square made with the aim of determining educational needs and<br />

competence le<strong>ve</strong>ls of the participants in the matters of education for the topics such as<br />

gender, age, educational background, family life period are presented below in the form<br />

of separate titles.<br />

Gender. There is a significant difference between female and male participants’ eagerness<br />

for taking part in training to be gi<strong>ve</strong>n in all sub dimensions constituting the<br />

dimension of education. Accordingly, women’s competence perceptions and eagerness<br />

for taking part in trainings are higher.<br />

Age. Considering variable of age, it is seen that while eagerness for taking part in<br />

training to be gi<strong>ve</strong>n in all sub dimensions constituting dimensions of education is<br />

higher in the age groups of 18-25 and 26-33, it is lower in the groups made up of the<br />

individuals at the age of 58 or more. Eagerness for receiving education decreases as the<br />

age advances.<br />

Educational background. Considering variable of educational background, it is seen<br />

that families eager for taking part in a training to be gi<strong>ve</strong>n in the matters of control of<br />

the undesirable behaviours of the children, sexual education of the children,, child’s<br />

using the time out of the school efficiently, supporting studies of the child at home,<br />

responsibilities of the spouses about child care, positi<strong>ve</strong> and negati<strong>ve</strong> influences of relati<strong>ve</strong>s<br />

on the marriage, distribution of the tasks and sharing the house works in the family<br />

ha<strong>ve</strong> mostly the degrees of colleges (of 2 or 3 years). Those most reluctant for receiving<br />

education in these matters are illiterate people.<br />

Marital status. Considering marital statuses, it is seen that while divorces individuals<br />

are more eager for taking part in a training to be gi<strong>ve</strong>n in all sub dimensions constituting<br />

dimensions of education, those whose spouses died are more reluctant.<br />

Number of the children. Considering total number of the children at home, it was<br />

obser<strong>ve</strong>d that families with just one child and families with four or more children are<br />

more eager for taking part in a training to be gi<strong>ve</strong>n in all sub dimensions of dimension<br />

of education compared to the families with two or three children. Accordingly, it can<br />
