Educational Needs Of Families In Turkey
Topics determined with the aim of revealing families’ competence levels and eager-
ness levels for taking part in training with regard to legal issues concerning families are
mentioned below:
1. Legal regulations concerning family institution (Marriage, heritage, divorce,
prenuptial agreement, certificate of inheritance etc. for protection of the family)
2. Consumer rights
3. Official organizations and institutions and non – governmental organizations
for families
4. Rights and responsibilities about social security
5. Legal rights and privileges of the disabled people
6. Legal rights and responsibilities of the relatives of the disabled people
7. Legal regulations on protection of the child against exploitation and negli-
gence (child worker, beggary, forced marriage at a very early age, prevention of right to
educate etc.)
8. Rights and responsibilities of the homeowners and tenants
9. Human rights and basic freedoms
10. Prevention of domestic violence and legal protection measures
11. Rights and responsibilities about taxes
Family members participating in the research were asked firstly about their levels of
considering themselves competent and then their levels of eagerness for taking part in
training with regard to the topics above.
Examining distributions relating to the answers given to the items in dimensions of
law generally, it is realized that particularly the topics of “prevention of domestic violence
and legal protection measures”, “human rights and basic freedoms”, “consumer
rights” and “rights and responsibilities of the homeowners and tenants” are the ones in
which family members feel consider themselves most competent. The topics in which
family members consider themselves more incompetent compared to the other topics
are “legal rights and responsibilities of the relatives of the disabled people”, “legal rights
and privileges of the disabled people” and “Official organizations and institutions and
non – governmental organizations for families”.
