Educational Needs Of Families In Turkey<br />

the male participants. This finding can be interpreted as women feel the need of<br />

training in the topics relating to the media more.<br />

Age. Examining the findings relating to family members’ le<strong>ve</strong>ls of feeling themsel<strong>ve</strong>s<br />

competent according to age, it was seen that there are significant differences among<br />

participants according to their ages. Accordingly, participants at the age of 58 or more<br />

ha<strong>ve</strong> significantly lower le<strong>ve</strong>ls of considering themsel<strong>ve</strong>s competent compared to the<br />

other participants in all of the topics except for the topic of positi<strong>ve</strong> and negati<strong>ve</strong> influ-<br />

ences of the media (newspaper, television, internet, radio) on the family. Looking at<br />

the results of Chi-square analysis relating to comparison of family members’ eagerness<br />

for taking part in training to be organized in dimension of the media according to the<br />

age generally, participants in the age groups of 18-25, 26-33 and 34-41 are more eager<br />

for taking part in the trainings to be organized in the topics relating to the media com-<br />

pared to the other participants.<br />

Monthly income. According to the data relating to family members’ le<strong>ve</strong>ls of consid-<br />

ering themsel<strong>ve</strong>s competent in dimension of the media according to the a<strong>ve</strong>rage<br />

monthly income of the family, as a<strong>ve</strong>rage monthly income of the family increases, fam-<br />

ily members’ le<strong>ve</strong>ls of considering themsel<strong>ve</strong>s competent in the dimension of the media<br />

also increase. Family members’ eagerness for taking part in the trainings to be gi<strong>ve</strong>n in<br />

the topics in the dimension of the media does not change according to the a<strong>ve</strong>rage<br />

income le<strong>ve</strong>l of the family.<br />

Educational background. As educational le<strong>ve</strong>l of the family members increases, family<br />

members’ le<strong>ve</strong>ls of considering themsel<strong>ve</strong>s competent in dimension of the media<br />

also increase. Particularly illiterate participants are more reluctant for taking part in the<br />

trainings to be gi<strong>ve</strong>n in the topics relating to dimension of the media.<br />

Profession. Housewi<strong>ve</strong>s and farmers consider themsel<strong>ve</strong>s more incompetent in the<br />

matters relating to dimension of the media compared to the other participants. Civil<br />

servants constitute the group considering themsel<strong>ve</strong>s most competent. According to the<br />

data relating to the comparison of eagerness of family members for taking part in training<br />

to be organized in dimension of the media according to the profession, the group<br />

most eager for taking part in the training is made up of farmers.<br />
