In addition, there are 48 sub-codes within the scope of these five themes. The findings
and comments obtained with regard to the educational needs of the families in the
dimension of the media are revealed below based on each theme and related codes.
Most frequently seen influences of the media on family members were determined
as various films, series and programs’ leading to violence, eroding social values, addic-
tion to TV, encouraging and familiarizing with immorality, preventing family commu-
nication and misleading. Moreover, some other influences of the media on family
mentioned by the participants were respectively determined as estranging from one’s
own values, addiction to computer, internet, incapability to protect children from nega-
tive influences of the media, various series, films and programs’ including sexuality,
making contribution to family education, degeneration, time wasting, isolation, influ-
encing mental health negatively- leading to depression, informing family, normalizing
worthless immoral behaviours, making selfish, paying regard just to commercial pur-
poses, estranging from realities and encouraging western life style. Problems mostly
emphasized by the families with regard to use of the information technologies were
determined as series, films and programs including violence or sexuality, children’s
playing games excessively and children’s using chat and meeting sites excessively. Be-
sides, some other problems regarding the use of information technologies mentioned
by the participants were determined as sites with sexual contents, competition pro-
grammes leading to earning money briefly and to point, their bringing about health
problems as well as individual and social problems.
