Educational Needs Of Families In Turkey<br />

1. Prenatal (pregnancy period) mother’s health<br />

4. Hygiene (cleanliness) of the house environment<br />

6. Birth control methods (family planning)<br />

7. Disabled person care<br />

8. Care of old people and patients<br />

9. Mouth and dental health<br />

10. First aid and health services in emergencies<br />

11. House and workplace security against accidents<br />

12. Pre<strong>ve</strong>ntion of harmful substance (cigarette, alcohol, drug etc.) addiction<br />

13. Sexual health<br />

14. Psychological (spiritual) problems<br />

15. Health Problems According To The Life Periods (such as prostate among<br />

men and menopause among women in the advancing ages) and protection from cancer<br />

and heart diseases<br />

Family members participating in the research were asked firstly about their le<strong>ve</strong>ls of<br />

considering themsel<strong>ve</strong>s competent and then their le<strong>ve</strong>ls of eagerness for taking part in<br />

training with regard to the topics abo<strong>ve</strong>.<br />

Results of chi-square made with the aim of determining educational needs and<br />

competence le<strong>ve</strong>ls of the participants in the matters of family health for the topics such<br />

as gender, age, educational background, family life period are presented below in the<br />

form of separate titles.<br />

Gender. Female and male participants’ le<strong>ve</strong>ls of considering themsel<strong>ve</strong>s competent<br />

and their eagerness for the training with regard to health matters concerning family<br />

institution differ. Female participants consider themsel<strong>ve</strong>s more competent compared<br />

to the male participants and they are more eager for taking part in the trainings to be<br />

organized.<br />

Age. It is seen that participants in the age groups of 34-41 and 42-49 ha<strong>ve</strong><br />

significantly higher le<strong>ve</strong>ls of considering themsel<strong>ve</strong>s competent in the matters relating
