Educational Needs Of Families In Turkey<br />

It is stressed that children of the broken families are seriously affected by this<br />

situation both educationally and in terms of personality characteristics. It is stressed<br />

that separated spouses must establish a human relationship in a way so as to enable<br />

their children to be affected from this situation as little as possible, and that they must<br />

beha<strong>ve</strong> responsibly in e<strong>ve</strong>ry matter relating to de<strong>ve</strong>lopment of their children though<br />

they broke up with one another.<br />

7.3.5. Communication<br />

The opinions of the participants were asked in the eight topics mentioned below<br />

with aim to determine families’ competence le<strong>ve</strong>ls and eagerness le<strong>ve</strong>ls for taking part<br />

in training with regard to communication:<br />

1. Children’s establishing healthy friendships<br />

2. Capability to establish healthy communication with spouse<br />

3. Helping communication among siblings (children)<br />

4. Establishing healthy communication with family relati<strong>ve</strong>s<br />

5. Being aware of communication mistakes likely to upset family members<br />

6. Management of disagreement<br />

7. Control of anger (capability to express feelings positi<strong>ve</strong>ly)<br />

8. Listening skill in family (sharing problems, opinions)<br />

Considering the answers gi<strong>ve</strong>n to the topics relating to the communication<br />

generally, it is seen that the topics in which family members consider themsel<strong>ve</strong>s relati<strong>ve</strong>ly<br />

less competent are control of anger (capability to express feelings positi<strong>ve</strong>ly),<br />

management of disagreement (o<strong>ve</strong>rcoming problems and disagreement without fighting<br />

or disputing, and coming to an agreement). Rate of the individuals considering<br />

themsel<strong>ve</strong>s competent in the topics of children’s establishing healthy friendships, capability<br />

to establish healthy communication with spouse, helping the communication<br />

among siblings (children), establishing healthy communication with family relati<strong>ve</strong>s,<br />

being aware of communication mistakes likely to upset family members and listening<br />

skill in family (sharing problems, opinions) is more than 60 %.<br />
